What Is Machu Picchu?
Machu Picchu was a great Inca civilization. Today it is just a set of ruins neighboring the capital of the Inca civilization, Vilcambia. An explorer names Hiram Bingham found the ruins and explored them. Machu Picchu is a great place to visit and explore for yourself.

Machu Picchu is an Inca civilization found between the Peruvian Andes and the Amazon Basin, found in the country of Peru. Machu Picchu is 2,430 meters above sea level. It covers 79 acres of mountain slopes, peaks, and valleys. Machu Picchu is also known as the "city in the clouds". Machu Picchu is 60 miles away from the capital, Vilcambia.
