What History Lies In Downtown Newnan
Photography is not just about taking a picture and saying it looks good or about looking at what is only being seen, but it is also about taking a picture through the lens in which the person feels the effect of the picture being taken and in which the person is able to be doing the seeing.
While walking through downtown Newnan and grasping the attention of the old history markers, downtown Newnan is also drawing attention to anyone who is interested in history and the facts about what took place. It was a very influential development to our city and had many people wanting to know more about downtown Newnan and the aspects it had. In the many features and images that it had to show, it created the theory that history in downtown is still a part of our city today. Hunters Point is a neighborhood on the south side of Long Island city in Queens. The East River waterfront defines the neighborhood through its amazing views of the Manhattan skyline. Hunters Point’s history is mainly based on its industry that is currently not as prevalent as it once was. Several problems for hunters point exist and need to be addressed in order for the neighborhood to meet its potential as being a fulfilling area for its residents and visitors. Hunters Point’s rapidly growing population has caused high rent prices and a shortage of retail and residential districts. In addition, there is a lack of transportation and parking to meet the demand of the overwhelming amount of new residents. Furthermore, one of the neighborhood’s greatest assets of its waterfront is extremely underused. Bloomberg, mayor of New York City, has attempted to solve these problems and appease residents by rezoning the whole area and creating the Hunters Point South project, which has been successful in transitioning the neighborhood into a new era. However, there are a few minor issues with several aspects of his proposals and our alternative project address these issues, while maintaining the successful components of Bloomberg’s proposals as well.…

After reading "My Brooklyn, Then and Now" by Wendell Jamieson, I couldn't help but to think of the one line that caught my attention " Plenty of old places are gone, but many thrive. And the new places - the restaurants and bars, of course...have made Brooklyn a destination." Growing up in Ridgewood, Queens I saw many places disappear overtime. I also saw many new places blossom and make this neighborhood quite an attraction. From Norma's bakery that is located just a few blocks away from my house to cool pubs, cafes, bars, modern apartment buildings and restaurants, I am slowly starting to find the Ridgewood that I once thought was boring and dull, quite interesting. I can see Ridgewood becoming the "next big thing". Just like Jamieson said,…

Behind the Renaissance center you have a river front that connects to Lake Michigan. There is little to no activities around the building and is built poorly around a four lane wide street. It involves little interactions between the buildings and people and doesn’t have private and public places such as open cafes or shops. With this there is no expectation of people visiting this place.…
