RE: Letter of Intent
Below is my account of what is motivating me to pursue a doctoral degree, my vision of the outcomes and what I hope to achieve from the degree and lastly, my plans to commit the time and resources necessary to complete a doctoral degree.
What has motivated me to achieve a doctoral degree?
To earn a doctorate degree is one of the highest honors of academia one can achieve. Yet, on the other hand, it is a tall order and a huge undertaking. Nevertheless, this is something that I have envisioned for a while. I started pursuing a doctorate at Capella University, but later withdrew because of all the hidden ramifications. I was hesitant at first because of the consumption of time and all it will entail with this endeavor. I have thought about and re-thought about it, again and again, on every end. Now, I think I am cautiously optimistic about the approach.
One motivation about obtaining a doctoral degree is that I would like to re-enhance my employability. I would like to become a contract consultant at a fortune 500 company and command my salary at some point. That is my dream. The calamity does not lie in dreaming, but not dreaming is detrimental. I don’t ever want to stop learning, climbing and going a little bit higher. I can see the dream I’ve been dreaming.
The world of academia is growing, especially with the rush of new technology and on-line classrooms. There will always be a need for educators with terminal degrees. It will put me in a position to give back and play it forward. All that I have learned through the years, once the program is completed, I will be able to teach others as I have been taught, this is another motivation.
Another reason for pursuing a doctorate is the need for a career change. I will retire form the United States government with the next few years and I want to pursue other avenues. There are few careers that require a

Every person who begins a college career has a multitude of reasons for doing so. Some people do it because they are expected to get a college degree. Others do it for a better life than they could have without a college degree. For me it is neither of these reasons. I am a former college drop-out who believes I can do better than I did. Therefore, my reasons for going back to college are somewhat different than the average person starting college for the first time. I have something to prove to myself. I want to prove that I can stay commited to college this time and get a degree.…

Well here I stand , with the accomplishment of at least half my personal goals . I finished high school , left the small town , attended college and received not one, but three degrees . The object of goal setting is to make sure the goals are attainable and realistic (Le, 2013). The personal goals I have set for myself are to complete the coursework and dissertation for this DBA program , by December 2016. In order to achieve these goals , I must do my best in the coursework assignments , work on becoming a better writer , and continue to stay focused and determined . According to Uttley (1998), “Long-term goals can be broken down into two parts . Conceptual, which are your wants and needs , and operational, which are the steps you take to meet those wants and needs (p. 2). The professional experience I have come from customer service within the retail industry and student financial services , within the twoyear college system . A part of me has always wanted to journey to the other side of things with the college system . Instead of dealing with students on a daily basis , I want to make the decisions that affect the college but benefit the students . I could be a Director of a department within the…

My main reason for going back to school is for better career choices and the chance for something better. Which is currently very limited in this area. Mainly some companies that don't pay very much. That's why I hope this degree will open on a new career or something much better. Maybe even one day own my own business or some kind independent business agent. I guess the idea being able work by myself is very desirable. Not having to deal with the daily rat race, doing the same old daily grind and having the ability to achieve something much better for myself…

Self motivated, industrious, dedicated, determine and God fearing individual are attributes that reflects my own characteristics. My religious background began in the Church of God in Christ where the Old Testament was the primary teachings that shaped my life’s values and forms. Upon publicly stating that I believed in Jesus Christ and that He died for my sins, I was baptized and thereafter considered “saved and sanctified.” This is one of the factors besides culture, my Sunday school teacher and family that lead me to believe that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Pursuing my doctoral degree is one of the things that will shape my future in helping me to be an effective leader. This personal reflection encompasses several areas of my past and current life.
