The word freedom has a different meaning for different people. Freedom to me means being free from a single ruler who dictates and who goes by his own rules. Freedom has affected America immensely and has brought upon many individuals for the thought of having freedom for the first time. We sometimes take our freedom for granted and do not think of how people dream of having freedom. America has freedom because it was fought for and lives were taken for the future generations to come and enjoy the freedom that is limited in very few places on earth. Individuals that fought and helped in the wars had to endure the pain from the traumatic scenes from their experience. Freedom can affect you in many ways, from the way you think to the way…

Freedom is like the wind because once it gets too powerful, it changes into a tornado that strikes and destroys. When people have too much freedom, it intoxicates them, drugging their minds. Then people will kill others, get involved in drugs, and be completely reckless. Freedom is not about having no consequences. To me, freedom means each moment, of each day, of each year, I can do all things, or at least try to do all the things that I desire. To me freedom means being able to show happiness, sadness, and anger in public. To me freedom means feeling safe, confident and secure in my life. Freedom is being able to have a voice and letting it be heard. I think freedom means having the right to make my own choices and decisions in life. Freedom allows me to love and hate. Freedom allows me to buy, own and sell. It allows me to come and to go places. Freedom allows me to obtain the things I want and to discard the things I don’t want. Freedom is waking up in the morning with sunshine even when the sun rays aren’t penetrating through the clouds. Because of freedom I can dream of being the President of the United States one day or the mother of many children, unlike others in different countries. Freedom is possible for me and everyone in the United States of America because of our countrymen and women. There are people who have and still are sacrificing, bleeding and dying for it. I realize that my freedom came with a great price. For all the men and women who fought for my freedom, I do greatly appreciate you and what you have sacrificed for me and the people of this great nation.…
In What is Freedom Hannah Arendt argues that freedom is related to “the political realm” rather than “the inner domain”. Arendt points out in the opening of her essay the need to “eliminate the greatest and mist dangerous difficulty, namely, that thought itself, in its theoretical as will as its pre-theoretical form, makes freedom disappear – quite apart from the fact that it must appear strange indeed that the faculty of the will whose essential activity consists in dictate and command should be the harborer of freedom.” (Arendt 439) What’s the logic behind Arendt’s opposition to the notion that equals freedom to free will? What’s the “theoretical” and “pre-theoretical form” of thought according to Arendt? And why would she contend that thought makes freedom disappear?…
