What Does The Respiratory System Mean To Me Essay
I was given the devastating news earlier this week that the Human Resources Department of the Human Body Corporation is considering firing me. Well, I'm writing this to you to explain why I, the lungs, should not be fired at all. As I mentioned before I am the lungs and I consist of two cone-shaped pink colored lungs that are soft, spongy, and elastic. I am located in the thoracic cavity. My anterior, lateral, and posterior surfaces lie in close contact with the ribs and forms the costal surface. The superior tip of me, which is called the apex, is just deep to the clavicle. Well, I work in the respiratory system department. There are five more interesting facts I would like to share with you about my department. The first is that there are four processes that make up respiration: pulmonary ventilation, external respiration, transport of respiratory gases, and internal respiration. It also consist of two zones: the respiratory zone and the conducting zone. The respiratory zone is the actual site of gas exchange. The conducting zone is all the other respiratory passageways that provide fairly rigid tubes for air to reach the gas exchange sites. Next, the hairs in the nose help to clean and warm the air we breath. Also, twelve ounces of water is lost a day through breathing. The last fact I would like to share is about yawning. Most people associate yawning with being tired. However, yawning is actually the result of the body not taking in enough oxygen from air. My job within this department is to house respiratory passages smaller than the main bronchi, excrete water, alcohol, and pharmacology agents, and help perform a vital process called gas exchange.
