What Does Freedom Mean To Me
Ever since the colonists fought for their freedom against the British government, Americans have continued to fight for freedom at home and across the world. Many have given their lives to insure the chance to be free.

Freedom means different things to different people. For some it means physical freedom, like not being a slave. Others see it as the chance to make choices for themselves. To me it means all of these things. I have the freedom to attend school, participate in extracurricular activities of my choice, and express my thoughts without the fear of being persecuted.

I am thankful for the courage of the leaders, veterans, and everyday heroes that have fought and have continued to fight to make these freedoms available to me.

“Give me liberty, or give me death!” Patrick Henry’s famous words still remain in history to influence our country, but many Americans generally neglect this phrase. We often take our freedom for granted without understanding how our Founding Fathers fought for our liberty from Britain. As Americans, we should respect our country and the freedom and rights given to us. We shouldn’t take this for granted because so many people around the world are unfortunate to not have this gift that most of us were born with or given.…

Freedom is not something that anybody can be given; Freedom is something that people take and people are as free as they want to be. Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, states, "Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one." Basically, Franklin is saying that in any circumstances mankind should not forget about the most important thing in the world - freedom. Freedom is when people have the opportunity to pursue happiness without any barriers. Freedom "gives" happiness because the state of being free is aligned with our true nature. The more you are aligned with your true nature, the more you are well. To simplify this, I would say if we have freedom - we have happiness; if we lose freedom we lose happiness as well. I believe people are only able to value it, as far as they can acknowledge how much it's important to them. I really love and appreciate the opportunity to be happy, that’s why I totally agree with Benjamin…

Thomas Paine a revolutionary leader who wrote the pamphlet “Common Sense” in January 1776 compels his argument for American Independence from Britain. He has written the pamphlet anonymously and argued that citizens, not kings or queens should make the law. It has state that “Americans Independence became a means to move from promising ideas to practical achievements, but only the American army could defeat Britain and defend independence.” Which infers that we must fight for our freedom in order to gain change and the separation from Great Britain itself.…

Many believe that the American Revolution, or, also known as the American War for Independence, is the reason why the United States is a free country today. The American Revolution lasted approximately eight years starting from the year 1775 and ending in 1783. Before the American Revolution took place, the Seven Years War had occurred, and the country was still getting stable from the previous incidents. However, the American people did not agree with the way they were ruled by the British Empire. It wasn’t until aspects like the government, the economy, and people rights were affected tremendously that the people decided to take a stand in regards to the situation. Freedom is defined as the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement. It is the power to determine action without restraint and the exemption from external control, interference, and regulation. Americans, these days, commonly regard their society as the freest and the best in the world. Their understanding of freedom has been shaped and based upon the founding fathers’ belief that all people are equal and that the role of the government is to protect each person’s basic “inalienable” rights. The United States Constitution’s Bill of Rights assures individual rights including freedom of speech, press, and religion. America has changed dramatically from the country our founding fathers discovered. Some could even argue that we’re not really free at all anymore.…
