what do i do know
1What do I do now?
I remember it as if it was yesterday; my first college application, something that I had been waiting for my whole life. I worked so hard in school and pushed myself in order to be able to get accepted into a University. Throughout my whole body I felt goose bumps, I do not know why I was feeling this way. Maybe it was because I was scared that I would not get accepted in any University, and that would mean everything I had been working for would go down the drain. I knew I had someone who would always support me, my mother. She was and always will be there for me no matter what. As she stood behind me with her hands on my shoulders, she came down slowly and whispered into my ear, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
“What do you mean by that?” I asked her.
“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.” She replied.
I have never heard her say something so meaningful in my entire life until then, and I will forever take those words with me wherever I go.
“But what if I get stuck and I don’t know what to do?” I inquired.
“That’s why I’m here, to support you and help you with everything that causes you problems,” she answered with a smile on her face.
My troubles faded away, or so I thought. I submitted my application to several Universities, hoping at least one of them would accept me. The easy stuff was out of the way, but now came the most important question I could ever ask myself, “How am I going to pay for college?” I was not financially set; in fact, I came from a family that was neither poor nor rich. That is when all my previous troubles came back. I turned to the only person who knew more about applying to Universities than anyone else, Willie Castrejon, our schools college advisor. After I told him about the situation I was in he responded, “Don’t worry that’s why I’m here, to help you out. I’m sure we’ll

I know I am not the only person that has had a hard time getting into school, or understanding how. Now that I’m in it, I feel lots better but of course it has been a very hard time coming from a 9-5 job and then straight to another job to pay the bills. First off, I learned that it is not free. No matter how many ads and people I had spoken to telling me “oh yeah, school is free”. It certainly has not been for me at least. I had a few small grants but nothing that was enough to help out with my living costs/ tuition/ books, thus leaving me to the device of taking out student loans. Since then I have been seeking scholarships but have not had the greatest luck. With this information that I have provided, I have now taken one loan out and this is my first loan. I still work two jobs picking up shifts at a bar on a weekend and receiving a student loan. I shouldn’t have to take a loan out that I am going to pay back years from now. I am having to work two jobs and do two classes a semester which to get to any or the degree that I want, will take years thus leaving me with a huge amount of debt I owe. Now, I am still lost just finding my own balance of work and…

In a society where a college education is necessary to attain a job, people will pay any price to get a degree. Since 1965 government assistance programs such as FAFSA have made attending college much more simple for the working class. However, such programs focus much of their efforts on assisting lower income students and fail to contribute to students from middle class families. Middle class students or their parents are caught in a situation in which they must pay for all of their college funds, or they are put into debt from the outrageous amount of loans. Financial aid is based off of the parent’s income until the age of 25, but there are situations in which not parents are able or willing to pay for their child’s education due to the high cost of tuition. Complications of financial aid arise due to the lack of focus in financial assistance for students who come from middle class families. Due to the complications of the financial aid system students from the middle class are forced to choose cheaper schools, go into debt, or enter the work force, yet prices of getting an education are only getting higher. For middle class families options to pay for school are very limited, without financial aid or the funds to pay, a life of debt and worry surely waits.…

It was in the middle of 2nd grade when I had a headache and felt really nauseous. My parents thought it might not be serious until they saw the blood in my stool when I was using the bathroom. My parents rushed me to the emergency room. They were scared and I heard my mom crying loud as a dying whale. A Couple minutes later, I heard the doctor saying that I had ulcerative colitis.
