What do biologist do?
What do biologists do?

What do biologists do? Biologists study many things. The three main things that they do are that they hypothesis, they make observations, inferences and they record data.

Without hypothesizing, biologists can not experiment or create scientific laws. Being able to hypothesis is very important in the world of science. Some evidence that I have, to prove that biologists hypothesis, are the activities we did in page 17 and in page 28.
In page 17, in our notebook, we did an experiment on our fortune fish. In this experiment, we hypothesized what affects the fish’s movement.
In page 28, we did the flower experiment with our partner, and in this experiment we hypothesized how we can keep the flower alive for a long amount of time. In both of these experiments, hypothesizing and making ideas, helped us come up with facts and statements about our experiments.

Biologists also make many inferences and observations. Being able to make observations and inferences help biologists observe and gather data and information for the experiment. In class, we also make observations and inferences. For example, the bird dance video that we watched. The video was about birds dancing to the beat of songs. The class observed the birds and asked questions on how the bird was able to dance to the beat. Another example is the fortune fish experiment in page 17. In this experiment we observed the fish and tried to figure out what makes the fish move. These observations that we made in both experiments helped us understand the causes.

Recording data is also one of the many important things that scientists do. Recording data helps biologists make conclusions and reports of their experiments. In class, we also recorded data many times. In our flower experiment, in page 28 of our notebooks, we make sure to record our data every day on the results of our flower. Another example, is on page 17 in our notebooks. We did the fish experiment and we also

Because biology is a science based on observation, quantitative observations and measurements are central to the data that is collected and analyzed during scientific. Without knowing how to make good measurements and convert them into other measurements, we cannot observe the scientific world. Thus, we cannot test and support hypotheses made based on observations made. The measurement process is used all areas of science including biology, chemistry and physics. Measurements are also used in other areas of everyday life, from agriculture to medicine to manufacturing, where observations, experimentations, and scientific discoveries are important.…

Hypotheses are created, not discovered, they are very open-ended in terms of their overall process and also how they are created. Each hypotheses hold different value, quantitative and qualitative information within each individual one, making no hypotheses identical. Millions of species inhabit Earth. How do scientists make sense of them all? First, scientists study the similarities and differences between organisms. The scientists study characteristics including obvious physical traits, such as hair or leaves, and molecular traits, such as DNA sequences. Then, scientists use the information to classify species into meaningful groups. The groups may also reveal which species are related and how they fit along the evolutionary tree. Scientists who specialize in the naming and classifying of species are called taxonomists. In this activity, you will act as a taxonomist and identify and classify an unusual organism.…

    The Scientific Method

    • 364 Words
    • 2 Pages

The Scientific Method is a system devised to allow scientists to gain insight, or knowledge, on a wide range of questions about one’s behavior and other points of interest. The first step in this process is to identify a question that deserves an explanation or answer to. For example, a good indentifying question that one could use would be why did the chicken cross the road? This is a specific behavior that can be addressed and quantified. Once the individual has the question at hand, the formation of a theory is next. A theory is the best guess that one has as to why the action took place. In the example of the chicken crossing the road, a theory would be because there was food over there. Another theory would be just to get to the other side in general. Once you have the theory down, you need to create a hypothesis to test it. A hypothesis is a best guess stated in a way that you can measure the results of the claim. Referring back to the example of the chicken crossing the road, a hypothesis would be because it was hungry. A hypothesis must be restated as an Operational Definition (testable procedures that can be quantified) before testing can take place. The example of this would be: If food were visible on the other side, the chicken will cross the road to eat it.…
