What Caused The Resurgence Of Nationalism In The 1820s
After the War of 1812, the nation was becoming one, happy to work, live, and try to accomplish what they had set out to do, be free from England and tyrannical rule. The country was prospering from new found technology, although mainly agricultural, new textiles and merchants were finding ways to make money. The country was expanding and in some cities population was booming. Over the next decade more and more Americans would move west; however, the country would heed problems with money, politics and the natives. Nationalism was at a high point, but how high would it go before it crumbled again. The cities were becoming overcrowded and people wanted to move west. In Europe, the Napoleonic Wars had helped the Americans prosper with high prices for agricultural goods; however, the National Bank in 1819, made changes for Americans who were getting credit with ease based on old land acts. The state banks then failed and this caused a financial panic for most Americans. This would later cause a problem for the bank, making it a large political issue. There were many things that caused a resurgence of nationalism during the 1820s. America was expanding, money was being made, transportation was getting better with new roads and bridges and the country was prospering. Having just defeated Britain again made it possible for the Americans to feel a sense of pride.
