What Are You Proud Of
What Are You Proud Of? By: Mulki Abshir
Certain things happen in your life that you never forget; sometimes they’re happy moments, other times sad moments and sometimes they’re even powerful moments like when it’s your turn to be bullied.
I’ve always thought that when your friends or you get bullied, by ignoring the bully would make them leave you alone but I realized it just makes things worse. It was 3rd grade in Elementary School, a year that I realized something important. So far Elementary School was going great for me, I got good grades and had amazing friends who I enjoyed hanging out with. That year ended up being the year I witnessed my friend get bullied, it wasn’t physical more verbal. People were saying things that weren’t true but hurt because it was my friend. Only because my friend didn’t do another girls homework. That ‘same girl’ was trying to get our classmates to turn against my friend. My friend never stood up for herself, she just took everything in and ignored the bully. As the year went on the same things continued happening. This situation was brought into the New Year. I thought to myself “This is a new year, people shouldn’t be bullying others to do their homework when they should be doing it themselves. This has to stop because bullying ruins people’s lives but more importantly it’s starting to ruin my friend’s life.” When we came back from Winter Break, I decided to finally stop witnessing this bullying happen and do something to stop it. I said to ‘the girl’, making others do your homework will lead you to nowhere in life, do your own homework and stop making others do it.” We went back and forth in this argument and, finally she realized what she was doing, how bad it was and she apologized to everyone but most importantly my friend.
After that, things started to settle, it was calmer and everyone was getting along.
From that year, I told myself that “If I see anyone getting bullied that’s my acquaintance, friend

In 7th grade I went to a small private school and my parents left it to me to decide whether or not to go to that school again or to go to Rosemount Middle. I chose to go back to my old school because I had hope that I would be a lead in the school play, I would do well in the STEM fair, and I would be class valedictorian. I had a lot of hope that 8th grade was going to be a great year for me. The sadness came during 8th grade when I got one of the worst parts in the musical and I lost the STEM fair. In addition this was the year that I realized that the people I considered my friends weren’t and they bullied me. Overall this was a horrible year for me and I was very sad. I really had no hope of anything getting better. The point of enlightenment came after 8th grade for me. I realized that this experience would help me grow in the future. It helped me to develop some real friends who value me as a person. It was a terrible time but it helped make me who I am today.…

Bullying is described as the use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants. Within the short stories,” The White Circle” by John Bell Clayton,” The Day I Followed” by Eric Luper, and” Bully on the Ledge” by Kurtis Scaletta, someone has to overcome the obstacles of being bullied, or the bully themselves, and admittedly regretting it in the end. The common thread in these three short stories is to think about your decisions before you make them a reality and end up regretting them in the cessation of everything.…

Furthermore, Boyd and Marwick believe that adults should not only provide the resources but realize “recovery is a long and difficult process.” (363). A great deal of thought, preparation, and understanding needs to take place to help stop the bullying situation. “The key is to help young people feel independently strong, confident and capable without first requiring them to see themselves as either an oppressed person or an oppressor.” (Boyd and Marwick 363). The language teenagers use to describe the events of their life will not be the same language as the concerned adults.…

We became good friends during the 5th and 6th grade when we were both bullied by the same person claiming to be our friend. She would emotionally blackmail us, manipulating our emotions and perception. During the 6th grade, she took advantage of our fear and turned us against each other. Telling us that the other person was lying or that the other person was going to get us in trouble or expelled. We eventually made up after a week upon realizing that it was her that was lying. I understand that the years after kindergarten where more difficult than you thought it would be and it is very different you never worried about being lonely or being bullied and frankly you don't have to until those rumors started going around and you lost all your friends or who you thought where your friends at least but you had few who stayed and you clung to them hoping that they wouldn't leave you too and they didn't not until a few years later when they where in different classes and when you did see them they where in the popular crowd like you once where loved by many but because of that they left you. when you reached second grade you started to get bullied not physically but in simple little ways like dirty looks and moving away from you and nobody really wanted to be your friend but you had a few friends and they tried to help you and they did for a while, when you finally reached third grade you started to bully others because you just wanted the pain and loneliness to stop you only did this once or twice but even still you came home feeling horrible knowing you just hurt someone who did not deserve it you grew quiet you almost never spoke in class and when you found someone who was nice to you, you clung to them really needing some support but you only seemed to anger them and they turned away from you all because you needed some support to know that someone besides your family cared for…

The school had two large maple trees one on each side with a large flag pole in the front. The back of the school had a large playground in one corner of the field and three brownish beige coloured portables in the other which were used by some of the grade six classes. I always wanted to have a class in one, but everyone said that they were always too cold or to hot, or that they smelt weird. It was the first day of school and I was very excited my teacher was extremely nice and I made many friends. We had three breaks a day each an hour long that was when I first started to get bullied. There are many types of bullying such as verbal, and cyber bullying mine was physical. This usually included pushing, tripping, and throwing things at me. I didn’t get why someone would want to hurt others and then laugh about it later. This made me feel confused and scared like I was trapped in a small dark box without knowing how to get out or what was going to happen next. I spent most of grade one with my sister and her friends to avoid the bullies. As I moved on to the second grade I had to find a new way to deal with the bullies now that my sister had graduated and had moved on to middle…

Constantly being surrounded by people and animals created a hectic lifestyle for my family and me which has encouraged us to manage our time better as we got older. After we left private school for public school, I experienced the most difficult year of my life. In addition to being “the new kid,” I was bullied. At the time, I did not realize what it was because the bullies acted like my friends, but after they attacked me during lunch—pouring milk all over my hair—the janitor told a teacher who intervened. The principal interrogated me, making it appear as though it was my fault for being bullied,…
