What Are The Difference Between The Lords And Ladies Of The Middle Ages

The life of the Lords and Ladies of the Middle Ages throughout Europe had hardships and benefits. In most cases, however, they had great lives because of their manors, castles, and vast wealth in the land. Overall, the quality of life and the lifestyle of the lords and ladies of the Middle Ages depended on wealth, protection, and various events which were occurring within the area. To begin, the area in which the Lords and Ladies lived varied in the Middle Ages. However, they were all similar in the sense that they all had protection and various signs of wealth and knowledge everywhere. Despite the fact that they were fed good food, given a good place to sleep, and cared for, many of the wealthy children of the day still did die. Much of this was due to the extremely poor knowledge of medicine and healing. Childbirth was very dangerous for the mother and child because of the lack of medical advances in the day. However, if the child survived, it would be baptized and brought up as a good Christian. Childhood past childbirth was half the battle during the middle ages because of the extremely high rate of infant mortality. It was rare for people to marry for love in the Middle Ages. Most marriages would consist of a young woman, sometimes as young as 12, marrying a much older man, usually in his twenties or thirties. They would usually meet on their wedding day, marry, then get to know each other and live with one another. Divorce for the wealthy in the Middle Ages was almost always up to the man. He could divorce his wife for almost anything or any reason such as adultery. Wives could not leave their husbands because they were viewed as the property of the man. Lords could beat up their wives as long as they did not die and they could control their wife and her possessions whenever they would like. Eventually, the woman was given some authority and could leave their husbands for some limited reasons.
