What Are The Causes Of The American Revolution?
The American Revolution occurred between the years of 1775 and 1783. It was the colonists' way of fighting for their independence from Britain. It took several years and a variety of events to cause the colonists to fight for their independence. These events include the French and Indian war, Taxes and laws, protests in Boston, The Intolerable Acts and the Battle between Lexington and Concord. The French and Indian War took place between the years 1754 and 1763. It was a war fought between American colonies and New France. Throughout the war, the colonies got help from the British Troops. In 1765, a group called Sons Of Liberty, was created. This group started out in Boston but later spread throughout the colonies. During one of the Protests that occurred in Boston, a confrontation occurred which then, in result, lead to the deaths of several colonists. This incident was named as the Boston Massacre. This was the first casualty in the war for independence. After this Massacre, The British decided to create a new tax on tea. Several people in Boston protested this act. They protested by boarding the ships located near the Boston harbor and dumping all of their tea into the water. This was a protest that later became known as the famous Boston Tea Party. When the British Government heard about this, they thought of ways that they could punish the people that were apart of the Boston Tea Party. They decided to punish them by creating a number of new laws that were known as the Intolerable Acts. In response to the Intolerable Acts, the Frist Continental Congress was formed in 1774. The First Continental Congres included from 12 out of the 13 colonies. They sent out a petition to King George to revoke the Intolerable Acts. King George never gave a response back and the First Continental, then, established a boycott of British …show more content…
The Battle happened on April 19, 1775. in Lexington, people that called themselves the " Minutemen "gathered arms and ammunition many months prior to the battle. A British army officer named General Thomas Gage found out about this and decided sent about 1,000 men down to Lexington. He sent them to Lexington so they could take away any illegal powder that was located in Concord. Two men, named William Dawes and Paul Revere. tried to warn the "Minutemen". before they could warn them, the two enemies met in the commons of Lexington. This "meeting" resulted in the deaths of 8 colonists and the wounding of 7 other colonists. Till this day, nobody knows who fired the first shot but this shot became known as the "Shot heard around the World". This phrase referred to the incident that fully started the American Revolution.
