West Bound And Down: Song Analysis
The Smokey and the Bandit movie clip has a soundtrack that suits the movie very well. The song, “West Bound and Down,” is a perfect fit for the movie. The lyrics virtually tell the story line of the movie. The Bandit was headed from the east towards the west in order to pick up a load, and he had “a long way to go and a short time to get there,” hence the lyrics of the song. Since the lyrics match up to the story line to perfectly, the song is more-in-likely a score that was written specifically for the movie. Not only is the soundtrack’s lyrics perfectly in line with the storyline, but the action matches up as well. When the action picks up, so does the speed and intensity of the music. The soundtrack greatly influences the mood and meaning

The song “Kevin by Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, and Leon Bridges, was in my opinion incredibly gloomy. First finding out that Kevin and Macklemore where drug addict was the first shocker. The song, per se did not declare Macklemore as an addict, but the context in the song told otherwise. Also it was sad finding out that Kevin died from overdose most likely, while Macklemore is still alive to see a friend die and from the song this was not the first or last death of a friend he would see. Now with friends that were with him dying from most likely drug abuse, Macklemore created for those who have a drug addiction so one could suffer the same pain he is feeling.…

Miguel Primentel, a R&B and soul artist, was a breath of fresh air to the R&B game in the 2010-2013 time frame. The Ballad “Candles in the Sun” was a simple, yet powerful song with a very nice message. This song was released on his second studio album Kaleidoscope Dream on September 25, 2012. Candles in the sun didn’t chart because wasn’t a single, but the album was number three on the Billboard 200 (Wikipedia 2016). “I wanted to create a song and visual that addressed my everyday concerns of life” (Miguel 2013) The song was very repetitive but had an amazing message. The song was to make you think and call to attention to the problems of the world. During 2011 and 2012 there were conflicts in the middle east, many countries had political…

The person in the song is a man performing a field holler or cry. The song sounds improvised, and doesn’t sound like it was for conveying a request or communicating a need. The lyrics include “I won’t be here for long” and “Dark gonna catch me here”, so I think the man is saying his current state, which is it is almost the end of the day in the cornfield and if he stays any longer, he will be stuck in the dark. He is conveying this message for the whole field to hear, including his master(s). In addition to the only lyrics in the song, he adds various oh’s to his song, which is used for emotional expressions and personalized improvising. I think that it is amusing that field hollers are for multiple purposes, whether it is for communication,…

Achoo! I bet your thinking about sneezing now, but wait. When you do, that will put everyone you are around at a risk of sneezing. Why you might ask? It is quite simple, it’s because I am magic. Don’t believe me? Go ahead and sneeze. Once you do, if there is a crowd around, it is guaranteed that at least one more person will follow you up. Ok I may have lied; I am in fact not magic. This is indeed only a theory of mass hysteria. This theory is one that by dictionary definition states that it is a socially contagious frenzy of irrational behavior in a group of people as a reaction to an event. (Dictionary.com, 2001) It has always existed but was more recently defined as mass hysteria…

One of the main genres in music is Hip-Hop/R&B, because it is pop culture and a huge part of the youth community today. This genre has a good beat to it and it is easy to listen to and the lyrics relate to the lives of its listeners. Artists in the Hip-Hop/R&B genre portray sex in many different styles. Some artists use a romantic style while others use a humorous style that is very vivid. Artists choose to write about sex in their lyrics because it is controversial and it draws the attention of today’s youth. In this assignment I’m going to analyse one of Bruce Springsteen’s biggest hits: “Born in the U.S.A.”. This song was written in 1981 and recorded in 1982 in New York. Springsteen wrote “Born in the U.S.A.”, which describes the problems Vietnam veterans encountered when they returned to America, for instance the struggle they had to adjust to civilian life. When the soldiers came home from war, they were generally ignored and had a hard time with unemployment and an inefficient Veterans Administration.…

The song that I chose to analyze is “Changes” by Tupac Shakur. The late Tupac Shakur was an African American rapper who was shot dead years ago. His powerful lyrics have impacted the rap industry to this day, because he spoke the truth. His lyrics directly related to his everyday struggles, and how being a successful African American is not an easy task to achieve. Rap usually talks about events of everyday life, and the song “Changes” talks about racial profiling, poverty, and how racism affects the everyday life of African American people. Note that this song came out in about 1996 where things were different, however the lyrics of this song still ring in the ears of people who are affected by the evil of racism.…

One of the most interesting musical and literary developments of the 1980s was the emergence of rap, a form of popular music in which words is recited to a driving rhythmic beat. It differs from mainstream popular music in several ways, but, most interesting in literary terms, rap lyrics are spoken rather than sung. In that sense, rap is a form of popular poetry as well as popular music. In Black English, rap means “to talk,” and in most current rap songs, the lead performer talks or recites, usually at top speed, long rhythmic, four-stress lines that end in rhymes. Although most rappers today use electronic or sampled backgrounds, rap began on city streets in the battle of “signifying,” in which two rappers aim rhymed insults at each other, sometimes accompanying their tirades with a beat made by clapping or finger snapping. Run DMC, an early rap group, produced “Peter Piper,” a rap song that contains early rap attributes, which shows the group’s sophisticated understanding of the traditions of English popular poetry.…

Singer CeeLo Green has released a song called “Robin Williams” which is a tribute to the late actor. Williams, a seemingly happy man, was battling depression and committed suicide in August 2014. Lieder ohne Worte (Song without Words) is written by the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. It is a collection of forty-eight short lyrical piano pieces of markedly song-like character that he wrote at various periods of his life between 1809 and 1847. They are well suited to the study of musical form because of their artistic value. Op. 19b, No. 1 Andante con moto in E major was written in 1830 and is the first in the collection. The piece is in the key of E major and modulates from E to B to G major.…
