The Baroque art period was between 1600 and 1700 and originated from the Portuguese. In this period, art was expressed in form of sculpture, architecture, and music whereby different artists were able to use these mentioned form of art to pass on an intended message to the community (Visual Arts, 2011). One of the factors that motivated this period of art was the support that it had gunned from Catholic Church. The protestant reformation was challenging the Catholic Church not only through literacy but with works of art as well. In turn, the Catholic Church brought about the Counter Reformation. As stated by Art Picture (2011), “The popularity and success of the "baroque" was encouraged by the Catholic Church when it decided that the drama of the baroque artists' style could communicate religious themes in direct and emotional involvement.” Baroque used a specific kind of art known as mannerist whereby the artists were free to express themselves regardless of the message they intended to convey (Art Picture, 2011). Though this characteristic, the Baroque period of art was considered to be politically motivated towards fighting for the rights of the people in the society. This period of art also witnessed some very important social conditions being put in place such as the fact that it exaggerated motion, clarity, and was easily interpreted by all the members of the society (Visual Arts, 2011). Secular aristocracy was also a major characteristic during this period whereby the architecture and the works of art that were developed during this period were used to impress visitors, as well as, people that were considered to be a form of competition to the society.…
