What is meant by the term media convergence with regard to technology, and how has it affected everyday life?
What is meant by the term media convergence with regard to technology is simply the merging of different content in different media channels. Prime example of this is books, newspapers, and magazines; all of these can be found on the internet using smartphones, laptops, computers, and tablets. All books, newspapers, and magazines can be found places like amazon, ebay, or even on a specific website such as The New York Times. In the past the lines between media with the TV, radio, and newspapers where clear as day. Now with the internet and all of the ways one can access the internet, the methods have recently became blurred. Today you can log on to a local news website and get up to date information on what is going on. Example of this would be last weekend’s top story in celebrity news of Paul Walkers deadly accident. It was all over the internet media as soon as it was confirmed, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. were all hot spots to this news, not to mention websites like TMZ.
How media converges regarding technology affected everyday life it has made getting news a lot easier. Instead of waiting for the next news broadcast, you can log on to the news website and get your update in real time. The waiting to hear information that is important to you is your house hold is the thing of the past. Merging the new and the old ways of receiving media is only going to get better and faster.( The Editors of the Encyclopedia Britannica, 2013)

Major developments in the evolution of mass media in the 20th century include magazines and newspapers in the early 1900’s. During this time newspapers were a main source of media to the masses. In the 1940’s radio emerged as a new source of media. Many Americans at that time would crowd around the radio to receive entertainment programming in the evening as well as news updates about the war. Sometime during the 1950’s television was added to the list of media sources along with newspapers and radios. Many Americans who could not afford to have a television still relied on the radio and newspapers for their information. The launch of the first satellite in 1962 gave America access to worldwide news and events. Today the use of satellite technology can tell you where you are going if you don’t have a map or tell you where you left your cell phone. The use of these new technological inventions occurs every day. Since then to the present day many other forms of mass media have emerged as forms of communication. Mobile phones, computers, and the internet. I know older Americans may prefer a newspaper but many people simply check the news at their computer when they get to work. Even radio stations broadcast over the internet through Smartphone applications. With the popular tablets and ipads most literature is purchased online from stores like Amazon. I am very thankful for the advances in technology that are available today, without them it would be nearly impossible for working parents like me to continue their education and provide for our families simultaneously.…

    | Media convergence in regards to technology, to me, means that there is an interlocking of all technologies. Media now can reach its audience on different platforms; television, Internet, and mobile devices. Media convergence makes it easier for everyone to gain access to important information and news headlines. If you do not have a television but have a smartphone, you can still keep up with current events by surfing the web on your mobile device. Technology is constantly changing. In order to keep up you have to be able to evolve with technology and learn how to use the new devices. Many older people are not comfortable with new technology and internet payments and find it difficult to keep up. When new technology emerges to the scene and catches on the older technology often becomes obsolete. Radio used to be the way people received there information, when the television was invented, it allowed its audience to see and hear what was being broadcasted. Now radio are hardly ever listened to, because we have television, computers, and mobile devices. Some people are just not willing to learn the new technology because they find it is easier to stick with what they know. Many people still don’t have internet access in their homes and still use a landline phone, people like this will have to adjust to catch up with the rest of society and that may be hard for them. The internet has changed the way we shop, communicate and read. We can buy basically anything we want without leaving the house. There is no longer a need to go to a bookstore, there are now E-books.…

Digital convergence is the combination of mediums that form a larger, more effective media type. The acronym ITTCE encompasses exactly what Digital Convergence is about. It stands for Information Technologies, Telecommunication, Consumer Electronics, and Entertainment. A good example of digital convergence is the cell phone. Originally, phones were used simply to communicate verbally. Now, it has changed and transformed into something that is used for entertainment, work, communicating, as well as many other functions. Digital Convergence is one of the main factors to the cell phone becoming the "third screen". It takes multiple functions and combines them into the same device. They say technology advances at twice the rate of anything else, so it will continue to develop change our lives much quicker than one would think.…

I believe media convergence with regard to technology is when some forms of media combine together. A perfect example is the internet and telephones we have our now smart phones, or the classic newspaper and television gives us the news, now even combining television and radio whether you listen to the news on the radio or listen to music both are now on the television. These forms of technology among others have affected everyday life by making it so much easier to access everything, convenience is the best way to describe this. When we just had newspapers we had to read to get the news whereas now you turn on the television and have the news read to you while you carry on with your day. When we needed to use the internet to check our e-mail or to look something up we had to go home on get on the computer, but now with smartphones you can access your e-mail where ever you are. Finally with the convergence of radio and television you get such things as the news, MTV, or just the plain music channel where its 24 hours of straight music by genre. If you have noticed all of my examples show how convenient things become when converging forms of media, by converging media it makes life easier for people who are on the go and have busy tight schedules.…

While obtaining my personal media inventory I was able to recongnize in today’s society media is essential for daily functionality within this day and age. It has almost completely taken over every form of our lives. Let’s face it from the moment an individual wakes up, to begin their day until that winding down time the same individual begins to cap the night off there is some form of media introduced in their daily lifestyle. If there were someone that wasn’t in touch with today’s society it media may not have any impact on them unlike the next person. I mean let’s face it if you were to go out and not see the average person walking around with their face deeply in their mobile device would probably would think something major was going on, it is just the society that we live in. People use media devices in a variety of different ways that allows them to find a broader technological advance to make our daily lifestyle easier to learn and adhere to life in general. | Media convergence is when you have old and new ways of media melting together as one. We will always look for many ways to find out more about the media and I think that this is what is helping the old and new go together. Personally I think that this has helped everyday life. If you think about it you are always trying to find out more and since it isn’t just black and white with the old and new more of old ways like newspapers or magazines you can now read online. Many companies are making apps on devices so that the readers can still read about their media in the old way but also new because of the way they are viewing it. The great thing with technology colliding with the media is that we never have to go without. I could be in the car, school, home, and even work and looking what is going on in the media. This help keep everyone updated in the fast pace world we are living in. Say you are lying in bed and don’t want to turn on the television you can go your phone, computer or other devices to view what is going on and you don’t have to go through all of the commercials or worry about waking your spouse up. I think when it comes to media convergence and regarding technology it has affected everyday life by making it easier for everyone to get the best of the old and new in with some help from technology and it makes things better and easier when viewing the media.…

Media convergence means that the lines are getting blurred between the traditional forms of media and they are almost becoming one. A decade ago, there were clear differences between print media, TV, the internet in general and social media in particular. Now look at things: Newspapers and TV have web sites. Those web sites deliver news in almost real time complete with moving video and feeds formatted for smart phones. Movies are now available streaming on the internet (Netflix). TV shows are now available streaming on the internet (Hula.com). Viewers can participate in TV shows in real time via social media (The Voice on NBC is a good example). Things are all converging into one big media delivery vehicle.…

Technological convergence is the tendency for different technological systems to evolve towards performing similar tasks. Convergence can refer to previously separate technologies such as voice (telephony features), data (productivity applications) and video that now share resources and interact with each other, synergistically creating new efficiencies. Convergence in this instance is defined as the interlinking of computing and other information technologies, media content and communication networks that have arisen as the result of the evolution and popularization of the Internet as well as the activities, products and services that have emerged in the digital media space. Many experts view this as simply being the tip of the iceberg, as all facets of institutional activity and social life such as business, government, art, journalism, health and education are increasingly being carried out in these digital media spaces across a growing network of ICT devices. Also included in this topic is the basis of computer networks, wherein many different operating systems are able to communicate via different protocols. This could be a prelude to artificial intelligence networks on the internet and eventually leading to a powerful super intelligence via a Technological singularity. Technological Convergence can also refer to the phenomena of a group of technologies developed for one use being utilized in many different…
