week 1 , discussion 2, 'How do you curently use information techonolgy?'
The history timeline was very interesting to review. I never really realized what it takes to make a computer run. After careful consideration I was able to think of the two hardware innovations and two software innovations that I believe to be the most important. The first hardware innovation that I believe to be one of the most important innovations is the processor. The reason that I believe this is because of the speed that is provides for the computer. The speed that the processor provides allows people to get the things accomplished on the computer much faster. The processor is like the brain of the computer it tells the rest of the computer what to do. The second hardware innovation that I believe to be one of the most important innovations is the memory. The reason I believe this is because the memory stores data internally in the computer. You can store as much information as you want in the memory, like for example, videos, pictures, school work, work from you job, etcetera. One type of software innovation that I believe one of the most important innovations is Microsoft Windows. The reason that I believe this software to be so important is because of all the programs it has to offer, such as Microsoft word to create important documents, Excel spreadsheet for businesses to be able to keep track of merchandise and sales, Power Point for presentations, etcetera. Another software innovation that I believe to be important is the drivers. I believe this to be important because drivers are programs that can, for example, connect your computer to a printer. Then once you are connected to a printer you may print anything from your computer as much as you want or need.

    i. Throughout the years there has been many advances in communications and technology. In the 1980s the microcomputer revolutionized the way computers were used. They were used only by major information systems applications, but later used by individuals to create spreadsheets. As technology progressed by the 1990s, computers became to be connected with one another through a network. From the early 1980s to the 2000s, we have seen advancement in technology. Computers used to be only stationary, but now are mobile. Processors have gotten smaller yet provide plenty of speed and power. William had stated a good point in that advancement in technology follows Moore’s…

Reading through the timeline I would have to go with the Hard Drive and RAM for being the most important hardware innovations. The two most important software innovations I would have to go with inventing the web and network operating systems. I believe the Web is a very important innovation because it connects the whole world together through this technology. Anyone that has access to a computer and internet can search for any information at anytime. It doesn't matter what time of the day it is, there are no holding for the next customer service rep to assist you. You control fully what you want to find out. I know I have used the Web plenty of times just find directions. Now if it was back before the Web I would have to guess where I was on a fold out map and go from there. The Web has made reasearching projects and getting information very easily attainable for almost everyone. The second important innovation for software I would say is network operating systems. These systems are great. With my job all of our information, projects, operating instructions, everything can be accesed by everyone through a shared drive. Everyone that has access to our network can access those files and get the same information. It makes it easier then sending emails to everyone. Just save it on a shared drive and everyone can look at the information as needed. It also makes it easier to use printers and the need for every single office to have a printer. With network operating systems you can simply map a printer that is in the other room and use it. These two innovations have had a huge impact I think on everyones life. It is amazing to see all the new software and hardware come out almost yearly…

One of the most important of those advancements is the microchip. In nineteen-fifty eight, Jack Kilby from Texas instruments made the first functioning microchip. But that microchip was not available for the public to use. After a few years of development and improvement, the microchip was released to the public by Fairchild Semiconductor in nine-teen sixty one. Today, the microchip is in everyday technologies such as, cell phones, cars, computers, and many others. Another largely important advancement was the mass-producing of modems. The U.S. air defense system needed modems, so they were mass-produced. After that, modems were used in public life for computers to send information to each other and connect to the internet. Even though the same type of modem are not used today, they still helped inventors get to where we are today and the daily communication we have with cell phones. The last important technology is the credit card. However, the first credit card was not like what we have in modern day. The first was for a restaurant but all the debt needed to be paid back at the end of each month or the card would be taken away. In nine-teen fifty eight American Express had the credit card that was the most similar to current cards. Credit cards are used daily for various transactions, and are an way to buy something and continue throughout your day. Microchips, modems and credit cards may…

Look around; look at all the electronics that we have around us, and think about how much we use them everyday. The man who paved the way for all of this innovation was Steve Wozniak, the creator of the Apple 1. Before his creation computers were huge, and even take up many rooms. However, the brilliant engineering kind of Steve Wozniak would actually condense it into a PC or personal computer. So with the help of Steve Jobs, they once garage-made circuit board has transformed into the booming industry that is Apple. For me, the Apple 1 was the invention that impacted the way I live the most because, it helps led the way for me to receive information, created a way to make work easier, and it was a changed the way our whole society acts for…

There are many ways that technology has advanced and helped us. The first thing that I can think of is the car that was developed in 1672, of course it didn’t look like the average car that we know today, but that single invention transformed our ability to travel distances. It impacted how we were able to expand cities and even transformed factories through the assembly line process. Another great invention that transformed our society was the first computer, which was developed in 1946. The ENIAC was one of the first computers that ever used in the United States. Although we didn’t know what it was or what it did, it was a great step towards advancements in technology. The ENIAC was announced in 1946, and its purpose was to “calculate artillery firing tables for the U.S. Army’s ballistic research laboratory,” states Wikipedia. Later, more computers were introduced and started changing and more people that were not involved in government started to use them. The development of Apple’s Mac, Dell, Sony, and Phillips were some of the…
