Introduction
Would you like for me to give you some spending money and let you go online and buy some items? Well step right up because I have a math adventure for you that will teach you how to be a wise consumer. I am giving you $500 to purchase one item at five different stores. You will be using your knowledge of percents, fractions, decimals and proportions to complete this adventure. Let’s go shopping.

Task
In order to get the most for your money. I encourage you to compare prices of the same items at different stores. I have acquired some discounts for you. The first item has a discount of 10%, second item has a discount of 20%, third item has a discount of 30%, fourth item has a discount of 40% and the fifth item has a discount of 50%.

Process
1. The next activity is for your group to think about five items that you and your partner would like to purchase. You may visit the following websites for finding the items you would like to purchase.

2. Go to the website: http://www.mathsisfun.com/subtracting-decimals.html to review how to subtract decimals. There are 10 problems that you will need to complete on the website after you review the lesson provided on the website. Please write the problems and answers on your notebook paper and turn them in as a ticket out the door.

3. Record $500 as your beginning balance on the worksheet labeled “budget template 1”.
Fill out the columns item, name of store, and price for each item.
Subtract the price for each item from the beginning balance of $500 to make sure that you don’t exceed $500.

4. Using the worksheet, “ budget template 1”, record the discounts on the budget template that were given to you. The first item = 10%, second item = 20%, third item = 30%, fourth item = 40% and the fifth item = 50%. Using the worksheet, “10 X 10 grids” to create visual model of each of
