We Were Liars Analysis
We Were Liars is a gory, suspenseful, sophisticated novel written by E. Lockhart. Cadence Sinclair is living a scandalous lie, yet she doesn't realize it. Cadence is dealing with memory loss, and can't put the pieces together until the end of the book.
As the conclusion of the book, Cadence in the long run uncovers the factuality of what happened in summer 15. Spoiler Alert! Cadence killed her friends:Mirren and Johnny as well as her lover, Gat. As if that wasn't enough, two dogs, Fatima and Prince Philip also died. Before you start jumping to conclusions you must know what she did specifically. The sisters: Carrie, Bess, and Penny also known as Johnny's, Mirren's and Cadence's mother were quarrelsome over who inherits Harris's possessions. As the conclusion, I wished she would have been straight-forward with the ending. The conclusion led me to ponder, maybe a little too much. Because the ending was so complex to comprehend, I had no choice but to make inferences. According to chapter 27, Cadence says that there will must be more to know and that there will be more. "But there must be more to know. There will be more.".(Lockhart, 225). My inference is that she as well as the liars have done something else that has shaken the family more. Another change I would make is to not let the liars leave permanently. What I mean by that is to not let the ghosts of the liars leave eternally. Yes, you heard that right, Ghosts! After we, along with Cadence learn the truth, we realize that the liars have been ghosts. In chapter 84, the liars say their goodbyes and leave. "The liars swim out, past the edge of the cove and into the open ocean.".(Lockhart, 219). I wish Lockhart would conclude the story with the liars back together and Cadence gradually mending from the remorse and
