In the introduction to “They Say/ I Say”: The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing, Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein provide templates throughout the first six chapters in the book. The writers specifically designed these templates to make it easier on the write on how to write a professional and well written paper. It structures and expresses your own writing in words you couldn’t think to express. A unique feature is the way they present the templates, it help you enter a world of successful thinking and organization in your piece. The most important formula that was given to use is “they say…; I say…” which gives the book its title. Is getting a higher education worth the price? I think it is. In the book, “they say I say” the author, argues that not getting an education doesn’t necessary mean not having a good job or a good position. I disagree. I believe education is really important. You may think you have a good job in your possession or a good secure position, but later in life when a promotional opportunity arises, you’ll always fall short without the degree at your fingertips. Jobs requiring minimal or no education usually involve strenuous labor and lack the opportunities to advance. These jobs generally won’t be in the office. People with a higher education stand out in society, not just because they might necessary need that degree for their job, but getting a better job leads to getting to know the right people.…

According to the article, in (Nadell, Langan, & Comodromos, 2011), “Talk about Editing”, by, David Shipley, pg. 292-294, talks about Op-Ed essays that are edited. I like the fact, that once it is edited it will not be published unless, it is approved by the writer. One way to respond to an author’s work when editing, is letting them know that a certain area of the essay not sounding right or is confusing. When I am writing a letter or email at work, sometimes I like to have someone look at it prior to sending it out. This also helps me to understand my writing and what I need to improve.…
