Water Conservation Tips

Toilets, Taps, Showers, Laundry, and Dishes * 1994 was the year that federally mandated low-flow showerheads, faucets, and toilets started to appear on the scene in significant numbers. * On average, 10 gallons per day of your water footprint (or 14% of your indoor use) is lost to leaks. Short of installing new water-efficient fixtures, one of the easiest, most effective ways to cut your footprint is by repairing leaky faucets and toilets. * If you use a low-flow showerhead, you can save 15 gallons of water during a 10-minute shower. * Every time you shave minutes off your use of hot water, you also save energy and keep dollars in your pocket. * It takes about 70 gallons of water to fill a bathtub, so showers are generally the more water-efficient way to bathe. * All of those flushes can add up to nearly 20 gallons a day down the toilet. If you still have a standard toilet, which uses close to 3.5 gallons a flush, you can save by retrofitting or filling your tank with something that will displace some of that water, such as a brick. * Most front-loading machines are energy- and water-efficient, using just over 20 gallons a load, while most top-loading machines, unless they are energy-efficient, use 40 gallons per load. * Nearly 22% of indoor home water use comes from doing laundry. Save water by making sure to adjust the settings on your machine to the proper load size. * Dishwashing is a relatively small part of your water footprint—less than 2% of indoor use—but there are always ways to conserve. Using a machine is actually more water efficient than hand washing, especially if you run full loads. * Energy Star dishwashers use about 4 gallons of water per load, and even standard machines use only about 6 gallons. Hand washing generally uses about 20 gallons of water each time. Yards and Pools * Nearly 60% of a person's household water footprint can go toward

People also need to be aware of how much water they waste. There is no sense in taking a 30-minute shower or leaving the tap on the whole time while someone brushes their teeth. On average, it is estimated that a person uses around 80-100 gallons of water per day. A large percentage of this water is used by flushing the toilet and taking showers or baths. Since 2010, the price of water has increased by 30 percent in hopes that people will start to preserve water by raising prices. People should overall be cautious and efficient when turning on any source of…

The basic changes we have to do is stop leaking of water. We have to see whether there is a leakage in our taps. Because of the water leakage taps we can’t protect the water. We can also protect the water byInstalling Low-Flow Showerheads. With these we can protect the water because it flows lower. And we won’t use much water with these Low-Flow Showerheads. When we are brushing our teeth or when we are shaving we have to turn off faucets. After completing the work we have to use the water. By this change also we can preserve the water. Coming from a family of 9, I’ve learned throughout the years, now that I ‘am 19, how important it is to learn to save on water, energy, and food, so that my parents don’t spend so much money each months to provide for the whole family. We all love to take baths (which means use way to much water), consume a lot of energy (so much room in the houses, and must be careful of how much power we consume), and finally by less food but of better quality instead of buying so much of the same food that we are getting tired off, and that sits in the fridge for weeks!…

Water is an important source that humans and other living things can not live without. Because some people are so wasteful, safe drinking water is becoming less and unavailable. There are several different ways to conserve water. One way is to bring your own water when going somewhere. Each one-liter plastic bottle takes seven liters of water to produce. Not only is filling up your own bottle helping protect the planet, you are also saving money. Buying recycled paper products can also help conserve water. Products made from 100 percent recycled paper takes less water in their manufacturing than products made with non-recycled paper. Another way that helps conserve water is watering the lawn in the morning or evening. Doing this saves water and is more effective than watering in the afternoon. Watering the lawn in the early morning or evening can save the typical home owner 87 gallons a week.…
