Waste and Bahamas Fishing
The Bahamas

The Bahamas with its capital city of Nassau is a Chain of islands in the Atlantic Ocean, northeast Cuba and southeast Florida. Absolute location of Bahamas is 24 15 N, 76 00 W. The island of the Bahamas does not have much natural recourse so they have to import food. This makes prices high. This is good for environment because they do not over use their water supply for farming, water and soil are clean because they do not use toxic chemicals. They do have salt, aragonite and timber what they export to other countries. Bahamas also use for oil transportation from other countries. I think that is really bad for Bahamas because ship pollution makes sea dirty. They irrigate only 10 km2. It’s show that they use really small peaces of land all over the islands. Total renewable about water is not available or they do not have water to use. And they need to import water, use rain water or wash sea water. Labor forces are (by occupation): agriculture (5%), industry (5%), tourism (50%) and other (40%). Tourism is main business at the Bahamas. And it’s show that climate at Bahamas good for relaxation and that many famous people and politics spend time at Bahamas. But every business has two sides bad and good. The same with tourism in Bahamas. I think that good side is money and bad are: trash, planes, ships and hotels. All of it account for dirty air, ship pollution, death of many rare species of birds and animals. Economy growing by tourism, agriculture and industry. Agriculture economy is based on growing citruses and vegetables. Industry is based on oil, salt, timber and aragonite. By that there economy grows and country grows to. Also people at the Bahamas fishing, but illegal. As they use dynamite and fishing nets, this leads to the destruction of coral reefs. Also they are solid waste disposal. That’s bad because it is ruined and all trash after rot its have bad smell and pollute nature also.

Jamaica is a smaller island located in the Caribbean Sea, which is a highly tropical environment, just south of Cuba. The climate is typically very warm with increased levels of humidity caused by the vast water that surrounds the entire island (CIA World Factbook). Furthermore, the terrain consists primarily of mountains, and there exists a narrow, discontinuous coastal plain around the island. The beaches just off the coast of the ocean are valuable vacation destinations for swimming, sunbathing, and other relaxing and entertaining events. Commonly, there exists a boardwalk of sorts just off the coast that is full of dining restaurants, alcohol and beer sales, and many other service industry organizations. In 2006, statistics were reported that over 64% of the entire Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Jamaica has been attributed to the vacation services industry (CIA World Factbook). It is clear that Jamaica provides an excellent environment that is conducive to vacationing and individual getaways.…

Barbados is a Caribbean island which is well-known as a tourist destination. Barbados has been a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), since 1995. The World Trade Organization deals with the rules or agreements in trade at a domestic and global level. Many nations are involved in the WTO since mostly all have some kind of natural resource that is bringing income to the island. Sugar is one of the main products, which has made Barbados a successful export business nation. The economic growth of Barbados results in the change from sugar being an important export, to tourism having an even more profound effect on the nation’s economy.…

Money plays a vital role in Bahamian society. Throughout the years our governments have placed our cultural identity at risk. They negotiated contracts and decisions based on our country’s financial circumstances. It is evident that our islands are truly “up for sale” but this can have drastic effects. As the years go by The Bahama Islands are being sold for the naturalness of what they are and are being transformed into something different. Nowadays, there are more aspects of American culture rather than Bahamian culture on display. If this continues our country will eventually succumb to the hands of its main financial provider, the United States. The Bahamas is too dependent on other societies and if we don’t change our mindsets our culture would be destroyed.…

In my research I was able to find out the first main cause of trash dumping in the ocean and the top countries as well as companies that are causing this disaster pollution on earth. For example, China is the main producer of plastic waste in the world According to the Wall Street Journal article “Which Countries Create the Most Ocean Trash.” Reporter Robert Lee Hotz states that China and Indonesia “generated a total of 275 million metric tons of plastic waste in 2010.” Other countries including our own United States generate extreme amounts of waste that gets dumped in the ocean with or without legal consent. We as a society have changed and we are more focused on a virtual reality, and completely forgot our morals and values that now seem…

    1. Jamaica has the potential to be amazing. Jamaica could be to be one of the top tourist destinations in the world. Jamaica can thrive in its economy by producing and selling their products. Finally, Jamaica has the people; the people who want to make a difference can and will make a difference if they have the drive to do so. When watching the documentary, “Life and Debt”, I was astonished to see the diminished economy of what Jamaicans call their home. As beautiful as Jamaica may seem to the tourists portrayed in the film, they didn’t see the true native life from the island and those struggling just to feed their families. Certainty, the International Economy System has had its ups and downs in each country. However, as the documentary showed Jamaica is well versed in the effects that the Internationally Economy System can have on the economy and how it can turn it around very quickly.…
