Washington Irving: Father Of The American Revolution
Washington Irving was born on April 3, 1783 in New York City, New York. He was born the youngest of 11 children. His parent were Scottish-English immigrant whose names were William Sr. and Sarah Irving. He was named after George Washington who at the time had just completed the American Revolution. He was educated privately and started writing essays under the pen name Jonathan Oldstyle for a publishing company called the Morning Chronicle. The Morning Chronicle was edited by his older brother peter. Washington toured Europe from 1804-06, when he came back he went to law school in New York City. When law school didn’t work out he teamed up with a friend James Kirke Paulding and his older brother William to publish Salamagundi a series
