Washington DC Trip
Washington, DC Trip – 2012

My experience this year in DC was more laid back than last year. I felt that I knew the basics of what we were going to do so I could enjoy it more. This is certainly not my first time going to DC, and not going to be last. I enjoyed most of the places we went to even though I have seen a good amount of it before, it is still good to go and learn some things I might not of learned the year before. I got to go to the White House this year as opposed to not going last year; however I did not get to see the Pentagon due to some problems on Cleveland’s side of the trip. We got to see many of the monuments and memorials including the Washington, Lincoln, Korean, World War II and Iwo Jima memorials. We also got to take in some of the experiences that you might see if you lived in Washington, DC yourself.

The decorations that encompassed the rooms of the White House were marvelously designed to perfection. We had just enough time to get a good look around before we had to head out the North East gate of the White House. Arlington National Cemetery has always been something I enjoyed visiting during the trips to DC. It is a great place to pay your respects to the ones that fought so greatly to protect the freedom of the American people. The last thing that I have to say is always fun to get to catch up with some friends and in general just having fun is at the mall. The mall has great food and also excellent stores and boutiques to pick up a Christmas gift for a friend of family member if you have the cash to

This week was very diverse in the activities that I did. The court review for Jamarion Lawhorn was very interesting. His case happened 3 years ago when he stabbed a boy at a playground and the victim died. Lawhorn was waived as an adult in the case. This reflects the juvenile and adult systems which I was taught about in my classes. When he turns 19 he will be done with the juvenile home and at that time they will have to decide what to do with him. He could still potentially get prison time as an adult. It was nice to know about the systems and how they worked to really understand what could happen in his case in the future.…

We all agreed on going to the panda exhibit. We also wanted to see the giant elephant and the monkeys. Once we are ready to leave the zoo we will find a place to stop and get dinner. There is a Chipotle and Starbucks near by so maybe my friends and I will treat ourselves there. After we finish eating we will have to get ready to go back to campus. While we are walking back to the Metro, We will have to find where the red line departs and get on that train, then we will have to get off at the metro center and get back on the silver line towards Ballston. Once we get back to the Ballston MU stop we will have to pay our exit fee and find the nearest MU shuttle to get back to campus. That concludes our trip. I hope our trip is enjoyable and we take many cute pictures of the…

George Washington saved not only the continental army at the battle of Trenton, but he also saved and breathed new life into the cause of Independence. After knowing seemingly knowing nothing but defeat and hardship for the latter half of 1776, Washington knew that not only he, but the neophyte country known as the United States, needed a miracle. History dictates that he most certainly delivered that miracle and saved the cause, but what were the effects of his victory? What is the importance of his crossing of the Delaware?…

Bands of America was very cool this year! The bus ride went very well, only problem being that every bump hit would rewind the movie that was playing. Once we got there everything went very smoothly. I got to help the band moms put the hat boxes in order! Warm ups there were a lot of jitters in the air it seemed, but not bad ones. Waiting to get on the field was extremely nerve wracking. But, once we got on the field everything seemed nice and mellow, like we were back on the field at home, it just had a different crowd and background. I feel really good about the performance. We did the best we could do and our best got us third in our class! Heading to the hotel and getting to lay down and rest was very nice and much needed. The food was…

George Washington was the first president of the United States and was a great leader for America. He got rid of the monarchy and led the colonists to freedom. Due to his accomplishments, Americans admired and looked up to George Washington. They felt if he led us through the war that it would be best if he could lead us as a President. I don’t travel very much at all but my parents managed to send me on the trip as a kind of graduation gift, a great traveling experience and the sightseeing part of the trip was amazing. We went toured all over the city, went to see plays, and visited a lot of famous places. I had only seen New York on TV or in pictures but I loved being able to actually go there. Just watching TV or seeing pictures on a screen cannot compare at all to actually standing at the top of the Rockefeller Center and being able to see all of Manhattan and the surrounding area as far as you can see, the same can be said about Times Square. Going to these two places were some of my favorite things that we did, along with seeing the Blue Man Group, going to Chinatown, and walking up and down Fifth Avenue. I had a great time actually being able to see and experience everything for myself, but there are more reasons as to why I loved that trip so much.…

Christmas vacation started when I went to Egypt. We then flew to Cairo where we met rest of the tour group. Imagine Kenyans and Indians in Cairo, the largest city in Africa with a population of about 16 million. We stayed at grand Pyramids hotel, a five star hotel in the centre of the city. We soon found out that even if Egypt is a third world country, it is much modernized. This is especially in Cairo with its fantastic art deco, great shopping areas and great roads.…
