War Of The Eagles Book Report
The novel War of the Eagles by Eric Walters, is an excellent example of a Canadian novel and I strongly believe it should be nominated for the CBC Canada Reads award. The purpose of my writing is to persuade readers into reading War of the Eagles because the book is a must read for all Canadians in order to learn about the struggles immigrants faced in the old days. Many Canadians have little to no knowledge of the treatments of immigrants and thus continue to accept racism in today’s world. This is an important issue to address because it touches on racism and how it prevails in Canada. The way Walters expressed Canadian values in the book is by using traits of Canadian literature such as nature and multiculturalism. The protagonist, Jed, is a hunter and he always go out into the forest to look for animals to hunt on. Thus, learned to interact with nature. Jed knows how to blend in with nature and become noiseless like any other animal. He was taught by and learned his ways from his father and grandfather, they educate him about the creatures of the night and day. Things may be different than the older days but racist insults are being thrown here and there in my everyday life. I know the feelings of being treated and looked at differently from others. English is my second language and therefore I am not fluent in it. I have accent and people would point out the ways I speak and the ways I pronounce words. Many people do not take me seriously because of the way I look. It is hard for me to live in a country that contains elements of racism. I want people to read this book to know the experiences immigrants went through and are going through. It is very clear that racism still exist today as many minorities are looked down upon because of their accent, skin colour, and physical
