Animation, although now seen as a kids medium to the common man to me is much, much, much more. Animation is storytelling with art, and it’s really stunning to see such brought to life. Some of the most beautiful, funny, groundbreaking, or heartfelt films of all times were used with this medium. whether they are cartoons or films; all are shockingly amazing. To understand animation, you’ve got to learn it’s history. Animation is a medium first discovered in the early 1900s, the most famous early cartoons were made by Walt Disney and the Warner Brothers in the 1920s-30s.
In the 1940s, the short lived MGM studios were popular too producing Oscar winning cartoons such as Tom and Jerry. Walt Disney Studios produced the first animated film ever: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, while Warner Bros were making the original Looney Tunes shorts.
The 1950s were a time where Disney were really getting money with their classic features such as Sleeping Beauty, and Dumbo.
The 1960s were where former animators at the now closed MGM studios created the much praised Hanna-Barbara studios. Making cartoons such as the Flintstones, Yogi Bear, The Smurfs (actually from the 1980s), and their most famous work, Scooby Doo. The growing popularity of T.V helped this company’s work shine.

Disney was doing horribly with their film The Black Cauldron earning less money in the box office than the CARE BEARS MOVIE. That’s harsh. Every single cartoon couldn’t air unless it was selling toys or other merchandise, probably due to the economy at the time. Though there was some light, but only for movie companies, Disney won gold with the Little Mermaid in 1989. Don Bluth studios started, creating timeless works such as the Land Before Time and Secret of NIMH. And lastly the beginning of Studio Ghibli, the legendary japanese studio that made INCREDIBLE films such as Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, or My Neighbor
