IDS 532 Introduction to Operations Management
University Health Services: Walk-in Clinic
We have considered this entire case from the Hospital’s point of view
1. Evaluate the performance of the Walk-in clinic. Are waiting times now acceptable? (20 points)
PRE-TRIAGE:

TRIAGE:

(Process time)= 32.8 min
From sign in to treatment waiting time= 29 mins

(Process time) = 32.8 min
From sign in to treatment waiting time= 29.9 min

(Process time)= 19.4 min
From sign in to treatment waiting time= 49 min

(process time) = 19.4 min
From sign in to treatment waiting time= 40.7 min

(Process time)= 32.8 min for NP
=19.4 min for physician
From sign in to treatment waiting time= 40 min for both
NP and physician

(process time) = 32.8 min for NP
=19.4 min for physician
From sign in to treatment waiting time= 57 min for both NP and physician

The processing time has been reduced in the case of MD’s but not in the case for Nurse Practitioner.
The time taken by any patient for Nurse Practitioner in Pre-Triage stage
= 2+8.5+5+13.5(Average of 7.5 and 19.5)
= 29 minutes
The time taken by any patient for Nurse Practitioner in Triage stage
= 6.7+3.5+4.2+5+8.5+2

= 29.9 minutes
Therefore the time taken by patient in the post-triage= 0.9 minutes= 54 seconds more compared to the time taken by the patients in the Pre-Triage system.
The time taken by patients in Triage by Nurse Practitioner is more compared to Pre-Triage as there is the service of a Triage
Coordinator included in the triage system even though the waiting time has reduced.
Similarly,
The time taken by any patient for Medical Doctor in Pre-Triage
= 2+8.5+5+13.5(Average of 7.5 and 19.5) +10+10
= 49 minutes and, The time taken by any patient for Medical Doctor in Triage
= 2+8.5+5+4.2+3.5+25.2
= 48.4 minutes
Therefore the time taken by patient in post-triage= 0.6 minutes= 36 seconds less compared to the time taken by the patients in the Post-Triage system.
The time taken by patient in post triage is more
The time taken by any

The pathways to become a registered nurse are three-fold: a three-year diploma program, a three-year associate degree program, and a four-year baccalaureate degree program. All nursing schools teach the students the basic competencies necessary for nursing practice. All graduates are required to take the same NCLEX_RN licensing exam, regardless of the pathway chosen, however it has been argued that with a higher level of education it is probable that a higher level of performance can be achieved. We will compare the associate degree to the bachelors degree nurse in this paper, and discuss a patient care situation demonstrating the possible different approaches to decision making. We will examine how research correlates education to better patient outcomes and improved quality of patient care.…

I will now go through the two types of Nurses starting with the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN.) It takes 12-18 months of Vocational training to obtain the credentials to become an LPN. LPN’s do direct patient care, do assessments, admissions, IV’s, injections, medications and make clinical judgment’s to just state a few. LPN’s work in conjunction with RN’s in patient assessments and are conserved to be working “under the RN License.” They are responsible for seeing that the patient care plans formulated by the by the RN are put into action. LPN’s are task oriented and paperwork demanded and can be held legally if there are any discrepancies. They are competent, capable and experienced in the acute and long term care setting. Now on the other hand the Registered Nurse degree takes two years for an Associate’s Degree and four years for the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) after completing prerequisite courses. They have the same role as the LPN but they have more skills; they are able to hang blood products, push IV’s, titrate drugs, hang Chemo, initial assessment , and they formulate the Nursing Diagnosis of the patient for their care, they establish care plans and the Nursing actions to provide care. They are the supervisory position…
