"Walk the Line" is a biographical film about the life and times of country 's bad boy, Johnny Cash. The movie starts out midway through Cash 's career at the legendary ‘Folsom Prison Concert ' of 1968. Before you see Cash perform at the prison you are whisked back to his childhood. It tells the story of his early days on his father 's farm, and his days in the Air Force positioned over in Germany. When Cash returns from Germany his music career begins to take off. His band, Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two, get an audition with the notorious Sam Phillips, founder of Sun Records (the label that founded Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, and Carl Perkins…Just to name a few). Cash is immediately signed, cuts a record, and heads out on his first musical tour, which happens to be of historical proportions. The tour includes all the boys founded by Sun records that I mentioned above, and also June Carter, Cash 's impending love interest. His music elevates him to stardom he could have never dreamed of, but drug and alcohol abuse threaten to drag him right back down. They also get in the way of a possible romance with June, the love of his life, even after Vivian Cash leaves him. The film continues Cash 's story into the late 1960s, and rejoins with the opening scene in Folsom Prison for an emotional ending.

The Director James Mangold does an excellent job depicting the early years of Johnny Cash. The style of the movie is based mostly on Cash 's own book "Cash:

This movie is like many other great movies in so many ways. Movies such as Get Rich or Die Trying, Four Brothers, and Boyz in the hood are all related in some way to this film. The main characters of Hustle and Flow are Djay, Nola, Shug, and Key. The movie takes place in a ghetto area of north Memphis, Tennessee. Trying to land a record deal, Djay does whatever he can to progress. For example, when he needed to buy an expensive microphone that has no sound distortion, he found out he didn't have enough money so he pimps Nola to the store clerk. Some see this as Djay being selfish, others see it as a way to make things better for all because if he succeeds so does his hookers.…

Director Frank Darabont wrote and directed the film “The Shawshank Redemption” which was based on a novella by Stephen King. “The Shawshank Redemption” touches our hearts and creates warmth in our feelings as it makes us a member of the family as Frank Darabont tells the slow and gentle tale of loving friendship and hope. A Shawshank newcomer (White guy who worked in a bank) in 1946 Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), bangs up a 20-year friendship with a black guy named Red (Morgan Freeman) while in prison. It uses the sweet, soothing and soft voice overs of Red to include us in the story of men forming a community in prison. It isn’t one of those films where it offers us quick, in cloud nine feelings. It accomplishes in avoiding the familiar.…

I chose this golden line because most men believed in how their education was more significant than women's since they were most likely to drop out for several reasons. Some of these women were encouraged to quit since there were so many people in their graduate programs. Considering how men had more rights, they did not want to see women be superior than them. Olive Byrne is one of many women who dropped out from the Ph.D. program at Columbia, after completing her masters and almost completing all the requirements for her doctorate. Byrne ends up quitting but had a very differential reason into why she did not complete the requirements and this was because she had to take care of a baby who wasn’t hers. Marston made an agreement with his…

Tragically, Johnny Cash and Ray Charles both lost a brother growing up. This is the most profound similarity between the two artists. At age twelve, Cash was fishing when he lost his brother Jack in a sawmill accident. Ray Charles was only five years old when he witnessed the drowning of his little brother George in his mother’s wash tub. The directors James Mangold of Walk the line and Taylor Hachford of Ray used flashbacks to incorporate these deaths into the story line. Johnny Cash lived his life believing that ‘the Lord’ had taken the wrong brother. The extent of Johnny’s guilt and his father’s blame for Jack’s accident is brought to light years later at a Thanksgiving dinner when his father dismisses Johnny’s achievements. Despite losing his sight to glaucoma when he was seven years old, Ray Charles appears to suffer from hallucinations. Hackford does a good job of integrating how Charles deals with his blindness on a daily basis. Charles insisted on being paid in ‘single’ dollar bills and wore hard sole shoes so he could detect subtle changes in surfaces as he walked. Charles frequently “sees” and feels his brother in water.…

John Ford, since 1952, has held the record for winning Best Director in the Academy Awards. His films have been dazzling and astonishing moviegoers for decades and he was a pioneer for shooting on-location and the extreme long shot. Of the many John Ford movies, there is an ongoing presence and repetition of several motifs. These themes are usually significant to the plot or character development in the film and often represent similar themes from film to film. Some of these motifs Ford uses in his films are dances, fights, doctors, women, and arrivals and departures.…

In Brent Staples’ essay, “Just Walk on By” the author describes his experiences, feelings, and reactions towards the discrimination he has faced throughout his life as a black man. Staples describes several different personal experiences of when he felt that he had been judged or discriminated against by other people based on the color of his skin and how that contributed to his overall appearance. Staples has continuously been perceived as a danger or criminal simply because of his skin color, leading him to have to deal with many uncomfortable situations. The author has even gone so far as to take precautions when he is on the street just so that he will not be misjudged or thought of as dangerous by the people that surround him in these circumstances. Throughout Brent Staples’ essay, he illustrates how discrimination has affected him personally and uses various literary devices to elaborate on his points.…

Johnny Cash’s inspiration for his music and the foundation of his career began in his childhood growing up in Dyess, Arkansas. Cash, born on February 26, 1932, grew up on a cotton farm hit extremely hard by the Great Depression. Crop prices plummeted and life became very hard for people in the area. The one positive that came from the era was that the tough economic times “Freed thousands of Arkansans from their centuries-old obligation to work the land” (Streissguth 24). Greater opportunities were given to many families, but the Cash’s decided to stay in their small town in northern Arkansas. When Cash was a young boy of twelve tragedy struck his life, he later described it as this, “it was my brother, Jack. He was my inspiration. He was two years older than I and he was killed at the age of 14. I always wanted to be like him. He was a strong person, he was a Bible student, he was in perfect shape, physically. I always wanted to be like him” (Steissguth 29). Johnny always admired his brother, it has been said that Jack was his hero. This event is portrayed in many of Cash’s songs as his inspiration. He would be guilt-ridden with thoughts of Jacks death for the rest of his life. Another impact of his brother’s death was that his faith in God became an important…

She is trying to negotiate a new shipping contract with Polychem where Stateline picks up and transport waste product form its six plants to three waste disposal sites. In this problem we are trying to determine the shipping routes the will minimize Stateline total cost. In the first part I set up the problem in excel showing the shipping to the waste directly from the six plants to the three waste disposal site. In the result I had a Z value which is the minimum cost of $3090.00 that Polychem will pay Stateline to transport their products. It also shows that Danville and Columbus is not safe to ship from because they cannot provide the supply that is needed. In the second part I develop a transshipment model in which each of the plants and disposal sites can be used as intermediate points. In the results it shows that I had a Z value which is the minimum cost of 2884.00 that Polychem will pay Stateline to transport their products. Also shows that Danville is not worth using to ship from because they cannot provide the supply that is needed.…

The movie The Shawshank Redemption, written and directed by Frank Darabont and based on a novel by Stephen King, displays excitement and suspense. Mercifully free of cheap horror and overwrought dialogue, this 1994 release celebrates the resilience of the human spirit. The movie opens in 1947 as Andy Dufrense, a prominent New England banker, stands trial for murdering his wife and her lover. Although Andy insists his innocence, the jury finds him guilty. As Andy struggles with his new lifestyles, he becomes friends with another inmate named “Red”. The partnership between Andy and “Red” supports the crucial way the story unfolds. Three reasons to recognize The Shawshank Redemption as an extraordinary film include the strength of its performers, partnership between the characters, and the fight against despair.…
