Volunteering Experience
“Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity and is intended to promote goodness or improve human quality of life. In return, this activity can produce a feeling of self-worth and respect. There is no financial gain involved for the individual. Volunteering is also renowned for skill development, socialization, and fun.” Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community. When helping less fortunate people it makes you appreciate and allows you not to take for granted the little things that you possess. For instance, water, food, a home, and clothes, I would even go as far to say under-garments such as t-shirts and socks, are valued by those who are less privileged and can’t even afford to get those bare necessities. When a person volunteers to a specific service without getting paid the rewards are endless. I can not speak for others but, putting a smile on some ones face due to my actions is better than any minimum wage check. I believe everyone should at least volunteer one time in their life. There are many services that one can do .It does not only have to involve giving away food. It can be volunteering at a shelter, a church, possibly a hospital. You don’t even always have to go to another place to volunteer. An easy way that a lot of people don’t think about is, when you see someone in need of someone to talk to, be that ear or be that friend. You are volunteering to be a support system to do this and the effects of this could be great and long lasting. This was not my very first time volunteering. The very first time I volunteered was when I was a sophomore in high school. My elementary school put together a popcorn stand where we passed out bags of popcorn to the children. I was not prepared for what was going to happen. My mother actually tricked me and told me that she had a job for me where I would get paid. At this time I was just a young kid just to make a

Learning, growing, and sharing—these three verbs, seemingly passive, have become some of the most active values in my life. With a naïve worldview shattered and my heart open to the needs of the world, I, as a seventh grade student, left Heifer International’s Ranch in Arkansas, after participating in an experiential education poverty simulation. I grew into the role of an enlightened global citizen with aspirations of acting on what I had learned about food security, poverty and the environment. Fast forward nearly a decade and I am sharing, living, working and acting on what I had learned with Heifer International in the role of Residential Education Volunteer at Heifer Farm in Rutland, Masachusetts. I have been able to delve deeper into topics of cultural exchange,…

Service-Learning is a teaching method that combines meaningful service to the community with curriculum-based learning. Students improve their academic skills by applying what they learn in school to the real world; they then reflect on their experience to reinforce the link between their service and their learning. Service Learning is often confused with volunteering and communication services. Both activities are a form of service within a community and they do not necessarily include a structured educational connection for participants, which is a foundation of all service-learning projects. . Volunteerism is the reliance of volunteers working towards helping a specific social,…

One of my passions is volunteering to assist others, which I have done in a variety of ways. During a prior semester, I had spent a few hours a week volunteering for an on campus food pantry, recently started to help stunt the increasing poverty levels of college students. The keystone of my volunteering activities was when I had traversed across continents, to a small eastern country in Africa known as Malawi. I had stayed there nearly a month, in that time, I had mentored the youth; delivered blankets, food and other resources to an orphanage; befriended the natives, and many other things. Helping others and making other human lives easier is what makes me tick, and I desire to continue helping in various ways. Whether five miles or five…

I figured that that would be a good volunteer job for me to do because I love children! For four hours of my night, I got to see children's eyes light up It was a great experience for me because I got to work with kids, some of my friends and I got to see my old elementary…

During the summer of 2014 I volunteered for the Boys And Girls Club which was located at Mary Ward (3850 Finch AV E, Scarborough, ON M1T 3T6). The dates I volunteered at this program was in early July of 2014 for two weeks. I decided to volunteer at this organization because I was willing to help children tackle problems that they faced. As well, I enjoyed assisting children to develop skills and knowledge that they needed in order to reach their full potential. During my time of volunteer at the Boys and Girls club my role was to take care of children and help them with whatever they needed. I also helped set up various activities such as sports and games. In addition, I dealt with several conflicts between the children and made sure that…
