Volunteer Involvement Analysis
Through my service-learning experience, I was challenged professionally while growing as a future healthcare provider. My volunteer involvement was successfully completed at Mercy Hospital, which lies on the shores of Biscayne Bay. This charming facility has been serving the healthcare needs of South Florida for nearly 60 years. As its mission statement indicates: “In witness of Jesus’ healing mission, Mercy Hospital strives to improve the well-being of those served through a healthcare delivery system designed to promote wellness and cure illness – this institution strives to deliver a qualified service with a thoughtful concern for the whole person. My affiliation to this hospital started back in August 2015. I have reached an aggregate of 350 hours, receiving outstanding marks from my supervisors and becoming the recipient of the 2016 President’s Volunteer Service Award. Particularly, for this English Composition class, I completed 10 hours in the Emergency Department and 10 hours in the Nutrition Counseling Department. During my service to the ER, I worked as a volunteer directly with patients, shadowed nurses, doctors, and clinicians. In addition, my experience with the Nutrition Counseling Department was even more fascinating considering that I was able to see with my own eyes the importance of nutrition. The
