Voluntary-Aided Schools As Organisations
Of the local education authority (LEA) funded schools there are Community Schools, Foundation and Trust Schools, Voluntary Schools and Specialist Schools.
A Community School is funded through the LEA, but has a large community presence. The school will offer its facilities for the use of the community, such as the school sports facilities and allow adult education to take place in the school “after hours”. A Community School will set its own admissions policy.
A Foundation or Trust School is run by its own governing body and will let its own admission policy. The site of the school will be owned by the governing body or held by a charitable foundation. A trust school has to form a charitable trust with an outside partner such as a business. Any services or support that a charitable Trust or Foundation school requires will have to be paid for and is not allocated from central LEA resources.
