The French who arrived in the 1600s noticed that the stick used to play the game looked like a crosier. A crosier is a staff, or rod, carried by bishops during religious ceremonies. The name lacrosse came from the word crosier.” (Lacrosse.) However women’s lacrosse was started in 1890 at St. Leonard’s School in Scotland. While the two sports might have some similarities; the differences are bigger and more important than the similarities.…

I have been to many basketball camps since I have entered high school. After a couple of years they become routine for players. I got my first opportunity this summer to go to a football camp at CHadron University which I figured couldn’t be too much different than a basketball camp. I figured you played a few games, went to bed, woke up sore and repeat the process like in basketball. I found out that there are actually a lot of differences between basketball and football camps then people would think.…

Volleyball had always been a game that I was passionate about, during the season and in the moment I really believed my life revolved around it and I never thought that it would ever actually come to an end, and then it did. I had a roller coaster of emotions through out that season, disappointed when we lost, ecstatic when we won, and sometimes a little angry when things didn’t go well; but my only feeling after that last game of my high school career was heart broken. I was broken because I was never going to be able to lace up my shoes and play another completive volleyball game in my life. This was a huge deal for me because I was a one sport athlete, meaning that I would never go out and play sports at a high level of competiveness again. I believe that sports are very important and that teach many valuable skills that you cannot learn from many other places. I was also broken because through out my many years of volleyball I’ve made so many new friends that I have now made a bond with that cannot be broken; they are some of my closest friends, we still enjoy getting together and hanging out every now and then, and I still talk to many of them…

Even though it was only six o’clock in the morning, my mood instantly brightened when I looked at my phone calendar and instinctively remembered that today was my final first volleyball game of the season. Quickly, I stumbled out of bed to go brush my teeth and begin getting ready for what would end up being my last day of playing volleyball.…

The adrenaline pumped through my veins. My heart was beating so loud and fast. There was the ball, held in the referee's hands, about to be thrown up into the air. Diving on the ground to get the ball up, setting the ball outside, and having your hitter slam the ball into the opponents side of the court. That is what volleyball is all about and why I have such a love for the game. I am here to tell you about why this sport is so important to me and also why it plays a very big role in my life. For me when I play it’s about being a team, going out there and showing yourself and the crowd that you know what you’re doing. In the time you are on that court you leave everything behind you and focus on one thing: playing your game no matter the outcome and leaving everything on the floor.…

If you have ever played volleyball you would know that there is that drive and willingness to win. Volleyball is a very trusting sport, one person could throw off the entire team and cost you the game. I have played volleyball for many years and can say that you need three things to be a good player. One; you have to have a good attitude, even if you are just playing for fun the key is to have good sportsmanship. Two; you have to be a leader when needed, leadership is a very valuable role on the team. Three; you need to build up confidence and have fun. No one hates a player more when they are afraid to go after a ball or make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes,…
