VLC Media Player
Description
VLC media player is one of the most popular multimedia player software on the Internet today. A program that was originally designed to run and display numerous audio and video files and formats (MPEG, DivX, Ogg, etc) has now been developed into a great server to stream live videos from the Internet. Over the years, it has been upgraded into providing a better audio experience, great web improvements, faster decoding in HD resolutions, and supports almost all multimedia files today. It is a free and easy to use program that is accessible for download by anyone with an internet connection and a computer.
Features/Interface
The interface includes the basic media control keys (pause, play, etc) as well as more complex controls such as adjustment of video colour, graphic equalizer, turning subtitles on/off, and even taking snapshots of the video screen to create posters. The program is broad and flexible enough to satisfy the multimedia entertainment needs for even the most complex users. An important advantage of the software, setting it apart from its competition, is that it does not require a separate code to play DVD movies. The program allows users to view DVDs on their desktops and laptops with a complete set of menu options that they have available on their DVD players for TV. It also supports DVB formats, so satellite, digital TV and cable TV play just as smooth as watching TV on your couch. Moreover, VLC does not require external codec packs to be installed making it a hassle free and invaluable program. Above all, it provides the best viewing quality even on the very low powered computers; a claim that most competing media players cannot live up to. The secret to the success of the program is that it is released under the GNU General Public Licence allowing users to not only use and distribute it freely, but also help in the development of the software. Such end user feedback and contribution allows for regular upgrades of
