Vitamins and minerals :are often called micronutrient because body needs only small amount of them.
Vita-life
Amine-containing nitrogen
• Vitamins are the organic compounds which enhance the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and fats.
• Without vitamins the breakdown of food could not occur.
• vitamins are participate in the formation of blood cells hormones nervous system and genetic material

Classification of vitamins: Fat soluble vitamins , *Water soluble vitamins
Fat soluble vitamins
All the fat soluble vitamins are available in fat containing food materials and some vegetables.
Vitamin-A Vitamin-D Vitamin-E Vitamin-K
Water soluble vitamins
• These are the vitamins, which are soluble in the water and almost all the water soluble, vitamins are available in water based food materials.
• Vitamin-B
• Vitamin-C
Fat soluble vit. Vit A (retinol) Function: Supports vision, skin, bone and tooth growth, immunity and reproduction.
Sources: fish, carrots,cod liver oil
Deficiency: nyctalopia (blindness) Exophthalmia(dryness of the eyes)
VITAMIN D (calceferol)

Bone making and maintenance.
Assist in the absorption of dietary calcium.
The body can synthesize it with the help of sunlight.
Helps to make Ca and P available in the blood.
Sources: egg, soya beans, cod-liver oil, sunlight
Deficiency: Osteomalacia (softening of the bone), rickets (softening of the bone)
Vitamins E (TOCOPHEROL)
FUNCTION: Fat soluble anti-oxidant.It protect other substances from oxidation by being oxidized itself.
Tocopherol is the most active and abundant one.
Vit E as an antioxidant.

SOURCES: CORN, NUTS,OLIVES,GREEN
LEAFY VEGETABLES

DEFICEINCY: Mild hemolytic anemia
VITAMINS K
• FUNCTION: anti-sterity , BLOOD CLOTHING Bone health -work with vitamins D to regulate calcium
Sources: Cabbage,cauliflower spinach,egg yolk,liver
