Visit To Metropolitan Museum
A interesting visit to Metropolitan Museum of Art I have recently visit Metropolitian Museum of Art. This is the first time I visit museum in New York city, my first impression for this art museum is tremendous and inspiring. It’s a multi-culture museum, there are sculptures and paintings from all around the world. After two hours of touristing, I was attracted by a painting, which is located in second floor, in American wing section. This painting is oil-on-canvas in 1851 by artist Emanuel Leutze, the name of the painting is Washington crossing the Delaware. The painting is surrounded by a gold color frame, and there are stars engraved into the frame in each side. Right at the top of the frame there is an eagle with wings wide open,

The third floor of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art houses a permanent collection on Ancient Egyptian art. One of the pieces there is a 13" high figurine of the goddess Wadjet, sculpted from bronze in during the 26th Dynasty, est. 664-525 BCE. The figurine is in the round, with only the goddess's feet attached the rectangular base she stands on. The hieroglyphs on the base identify her, as well as the name and parentage of the person who dedicated her figurine. She is shown in the traditional ancient Egyptian pose, with her left foot forward. She is wearing some sort of dress, but her decidedly feminine figure, with a curved abdomen, narrow waist, and protruding breasts, is clearly portrayed through it. Her right arm is held rigidly at her side, again in strict stylistic convention, and her left arm bends only at the elbow to hold whatever less enduring material was placed there. In fact, both of her hands were clearly intended to encircle props, but these have been lost and as such, what they once were can only be inferred from other portrayals of the goddess. She clearly wears necklaces, armbands, and bracelets; this highly detailed work is also present on her lion's mane, which is shaped similarly to the pharoah's headdress. She has the head of a lioness, upon which rests the sacred cobra and sun disk, called the uraeus.…

This primary document is a watercolor painting made in 1954 that depicts the commercial atmosphere encompassing the corner of 21st and Pennsylvania Ave. NW. More specifically, this painting features people walking about present-day James Monroe Park, as well as certain characteristics of everyday urban life (such as a local market, multiple-story buildings, ‘50s era automobiles, and a streetcar). This artwork was created by John A. Bryans, an American artist and educator whose work focuses on the ordinary happenings within cityscapes and rural settings that most people take for granted. With that said, Bryans likely wanted to emphasize both the simplicity and beauty of such a busy area of the city, which was–and still is–locally known as the…

The painting I chose to research is called “Washington In Prayer At Valley Forge” this was painted by Arnold Friberg in 1976. In this painting we see George Washington praying at Valley Forge in Pennsylvania. Most of the colors in this painting are soft colors yet dark, since it is starting to become day. Arnold Friberg, did this painting to show that we should believe and have faith. The overall tone or mood of this painting is Faith and Believing.…

East Indian Sculpture and Baroque sculpture: How are they different and how are they similar? After circling the museum for an hour, bouncing from security guard to security guard (trying to find my way to the baroque sculptures) I was finally able to answer that question. The two examples I chose were "Nessus and Dejanira" from the Baroque period and "Loving Couple" from Eastern India. The reason I chose these two specifically is because they both involved a man and a woman, making it more interesting for comparing and contrasting. I also chose five additional pieces to discuss later in my paper.…

This sculpture shows an eagle and a man. The bird is sitting upright on the left hand side of the sculpture and the man is crouching to the right of him. The man is facing the eagle and feeding it from a bowl in his left hand. In the man’s right hand there is a pitcher. The man is wearing a pointed hat with flaps, and he has curly hair. The man appears to be young, around 25. Between the man's right arm and his right thigh is a clock like cloth that drapes behind the man. This man is crouching down and his back and shoulders are hunched over. His right knee is touching the ground and his left foot is flat on the floor making his left knee level with his right hand and the bowl. The man’s eyes are looking at the eagle's eyes, but the eagle is looking into the bowl that he is drinking or eating from. The point of the man’s hat is bent forward in a way that mimics the eagles head. The eagle is shown in hieratic scale, almost as large as the man. The man is crouching down in a servant like position, and is performing…

As an art student, I find the art that we learn about in class very interesting because it is art that I would never be interested in, but yet after learning the details I enjoy them. Although I don’t mind learning art through power points, I find physically looking at art more enjoyable. Getting the whole experience of physical artwork is a more exciting way to learn and catches my interest more, which is why I was so excited to visit a new museum and look at some art. For this assignment I decided to go to the LACMA museum. I have been to many museums before, but I have not visited the Los Angeles County Museum of Art yet so I was very excited. I find a lot of art very fascinating, but I am more interested in the more contemporary and modern arts. I am a design major so I was drawn to the sculptural art pieces that were displayed outside the building. One piece in particular that I found very beautiful and fascinating was an outside display entitled “Urban Light”.…

Zeitgeist is defined as the spirit or mood of a particular period of history; epitomized in art to express the beliefs and ideas of the time. Throughout history the zeitgeist has changed based on the ideas and cultures within a time period. When watching modern movies one can notice the contrast to the movies made in the previous decade. The same applies when analyzing artwork. It may not be apparent that a hundred years between artworks can produce much contrast or it is not quantitative amount of time to make a drastic change in artwork, however much altars and it can be traced back to the zeitgeist of the period surrounding the art. Take a step into the Metropolitan Museum of Art, when gazing at the masterpieces take a look at the dates of the…

The detail in this 1898 French painting have the viewer standing in awe for much longer than anticipated, transfixing the eyes from the shops along the street to roofs of buildings. The piece of art featured horses and carriages, with people littering the square on a busy day in town. The depth of color transitions in the street and the sky added shadows and darker patches. The oil on canvas painting delivered all the brushstrokes in a coherent fashion, completing one of the most fantastic works of art I have ever seen. Another fantastic artist with pieces displayed at the museum was Jasper Johns, the artist famous for the 1955 American Flag painting. His innovative modern art pushed boundaries that none had experimented with in the 1950s as he began to paint numbers and maps of America. In my opinion, the best artist within the European Art exhibit was Claude Monet. His paintings found in gallery 161 of the Water Lily Pond and Bend in the Epte River near Giverny found in gallery 157 displayed an excess of color like the pinks and greens of exotic flora and fauna. Overall, I enjoyed this assignment and its mandatory attention for detail and admiration throughout the Philadelphia Museum of…

As in Noah’s Ark, there is the evidence of acknowledgment of Egyptian wall paintings which ties into African heritage. The most prominent part of the painting is the story being told through the figures in the foreground. Starting on the left, the story begins with the slave worker in the fields picking cotton. As the story transitions to the right, the figures are no longer hunching over, but are standing tall and willing to fight for their freedom. In the background are the silhouettes of the armies that fought for and against the abolishment of slavery. The center figure, through the use of Art Deco inspired geometric shapes becomes the focal point, is pointing towards the north to lead the southerners to their economic freedom. Lastly, on the right side of the painting, emphasizes the cultural rebirth black Americans found in the…

The painting shows a round halo behind the head of Saint George that is painted in with a gold leaf. Most of the saints that were painted at that time had a golden halo behind their head. This halo is bright and it stands out from behind Saint George. The painting has a bright color of orange, the color is not dull, and it still holds the original color; it looks as if it was just painted.…
