Viral Loop Case Study
“Virality”, “Viral Loop”, “Growth Hack” … Ah! A lot of buzzwords you have been hearing lately? Well, yes. These buzzwords are making some noise already and let me tell you, it’s not at all rocket science. It is something that you can easily adapt and help yourself. So, how can you top your app in the App Stores? It is not as simple as you thought though and not as hard as some complicated science formula. It’s some well polished common sense we can call.

1) What is Virality or Viral Loop?

Virality is all about interacting with your users and making them become your app’s marketers. Virality is not just a marketing strategy, it is something which has to be thought thoroughly and implemented from the very beginning. Growth obtained this way

Incentivize the users in simple terms.
It must add more value to the users more they use the app. It must either solve some of their need or it must be really addictive.
Ask yourself these questions which will help you figure out your app’s worth or market fit:

Why will people share my app? Does it offer something valuable for the users to share?
Is it really worth being shared?
How can I reward the users for sharing my app?
Why will they share and how can I make them share?
Why would they want their friends to use this? and why would they want their friends to share?
How can I make the users keep sharing the app for a long term?
2) How and when does this work?

There is an Old School viral model which you already might know of. Make users create something or some action in your app and then share it with their friends. In this approach the obvious way of interacting is by adding social sharing buttons, text messages, emails. Unfortunately this method, misses a lot of opportunities because only a few of users will share, only a few of the friends will see what they have shared hence reducing the growth rate. To actually go viral, it is important to engage your audience effectively. Each and every time they use your app, it should improve their experience and increase value of your app. More users come on board, the value should go

If we dig deep, there comes a term called “Viral Coefficient”. Once again, its not something hard to understand, but just a simple equation which will let you figure out if your viral loop will be successful.

Viral Coefficient, VC = N x PN1 x PN2
Here,

N = average number of users invited by each active users who invites someone.

PN1 = proportion of users who will accept the invites and join your app

PN2 = proportion of active users who will invite others.

Now, to make use of this equation, change the variables N, PN1 and PN2 with appropriate values based on your analytics, and multiply them. The result you have is VC or Viral Coefficient. Based on the value you get for VC, you can figure out how well your viral loop will grow in these three ways –

If VC is greater than 1, then growth is exponential.
If VC is less than 1, then you will have to take care of your content, monitor them and remarket them in a better way.
If VC is less than 0, then there will not be any growth possible.

I actually don't go for the typical Influencers. I go for large facebook pages with audiences that are trained to share content - this opened the door to making things go viral. Soflo is a good example of what I mean. Pay attention to the end of all their videos - they always ask for a share. Pages like this have a bigger ripple effect on the internet then the traditional influencers therefor there is a greater chance of making something go viral. Here's a pic to show you what I mean...…

Marketing organisations products over the internet is one of the most cost-effective ways to get people to notice your business. With the ability to create blogs and interact with others over the internet, consumers also have the capability to share information. This leads us to viral marketing. Viral marketing offers encouragements to pass on a message (or sometimes video) about a particular product or service. An example of this is the T-Mobile viral marketing campaign, which involved every day looking dancers to work together and shock travellers on their way to work. The plan was to get everyone so excited and in the mood that they will start to record the moment and this is how the video becomes viral. The adverts have…

Social Networking on the internet and social media has changed the way that the world does business and operates. You can no longer stick to the traditional ways of reaching customers such as newspaper ads or flyers sent through the mail. Although these forms are still used and I’m sure they are quite successful, nothing beats word of mouth and nothing beats word of mouth shared through social media and social networking. Social networking was originally based on six degrees of separation and is defined as expanding the amount of businesses and social contacts by making connections through other users or individuals. How many times have you wanted to try a product and asked a fellow co-worker or family member about it and they gave you a full review of the product or have even used the product in question? It doesn’t happen to often but social networking and social media gives you a platform to ask that very question and countless amounts of feedback and advice.…

An epidemic begins when a few highly infectious individuals become viral vectors for a product or idea by adopting it themselves and spreading the word. The attainment of the tipping point that transforms a phenomenon into an influential trend usually requires the intervention of a number of influential types of people. In the disease epidemic model Gladwell introduced in Chapter 1, he demonstrated that many outbreaks could be traced back to a small group of infectors. Likewise, on the path toward the tipping point, many trends are ushered into popularity by small groups of individuals…

    SnapChat Explanation

    • 916 Words
    • 4 Pages

The application Snap Chat was created in September of 2011 by a group of Stanford university students. To set up an account the potential user must download the application from the app story. When the application is downloaded the user chooses the option “Make an Account”. Once this option is chosen the application requires very basic information such as a user name and password. After making an account the user is able to find friends by either searching for their friend’s whole name, or their friend’s user name. In the application users are able to take a photo or video of anything they would like. Once this photo or video is taken they are able to use a maximum of thirty three characters to write a description of the photo or video. Also, users are able to use a doodle option where they can draw over their photo or video. After this is done, the user is able to choose how long they want their friends to see their photo after they send it. They have the option between one to ten seconds. When it comes to a persons friends list, every person has their average friends and then up to at least three best friends. These friends are defined as “best” because they are the people a person send pictures and videos to the most or vice…
