Imagine yourself in a scenario where you are killing fifty zombie pedestrians ruthlessly one by one with a chain-saw in front of a food court. Red hot blood is gushing from their open cuts with a gurgling sound which engulfs your mind in a trance from which you cannot get out. Wait! It’s not over yet. One zombie avoids the swipe of your blade and reaches you. Its white teeth glisten in the moonlight as it is coming closer to your neck and you open your mouth to scream! Quite an intimidating scene, isn’t it? It subdues even a guileless person’s mind with an overwhelming sense of violence and a sort of primitive pleasure and the seed of this sort of sensation lies within the deep recesses of our mind. It’s a scene from a popular video game called “A Night of the Dead” which is quite popular among thousands of children and teenagers. Just think for a moment what kind of mental damage this game could inflict upon the unripe minds of children who don’t understand the difference between right or wrong. What kind of sense of morality they would grow with if they continue to watch these kinds of violent content over and anon? As preposterous it seems it is the real picture of today’s almost every youth with a computer at his disposal. The rapid aggression of technology made it easy for the youth to lay their hands on such things as violent video games for passing their leisure hours. They pass their idle hours killing unreal persons in a virtual world while fidgeting with their controllers. The important thing which they don’t know is playing these games essentially leads them to such a miserable situation where they are going to experience a drastic change in their behavior such as growing aggressive through watching violent contents, reenact them in their real life which often leads to crime and become so engrossed in

    According to the article “Shooting in the Dark” author, Benedict Carey, states that studies today on violent video games show no concrete evidence on actually long term negative effects on gamers. Mr. Carey is not a researcher or scientist but is a veteran writer of neuroscience, neurology, and psychology. Throughout this article he gives factual evidence and quotes from scholarly sources such as doctors and researchers in the fields of behavior and psychology. The author gives ample explanation on evidence used from his sources to give the optimal understanding to the reader of the results and/or findings given by the sources. The article connects to the modern age of gamers with examples from big name video games popular with today’s video gamers. Although Mr. Carey does give evidence that violent video games have been found to give short term negative effects he does reassure the reader through quotes and statements from his sources that no studies show consistent long term effects. The claim of the author about the research on the effects of violent video games is strongly supported and backed through his use of rhetorical appeals and scholarly evidence.…

    Does playing a video game make you prone to commit real-life violence? This question has been an issue since the very early 90's when violent games like Doom and Wolfenstein were released, but only in the last half a decade or so (mainly since the incident at Columbine, Colorado, 1999 – when it was revealed that the teenage shooters were avid video game players) has it really come to the majority's attention. The key issue that both sides can't agree on is whether people should be allowed to play violent games or not. I think both sides agree that extremely violent video games should not be played by young children, who have a harder time separating reality from fiction; also, the media does indeed only report one side of the argument. There have been numerous studies claiming both that violent games correlate to real-life violence, and that there is little or no such correlation. The problem is that there is no concrete evidence of a causal conclusion between video game violence and real-life violence.
