Violent Sports Persuasive Speech
As a child I was really into wrestling and action movies, I never really understood why my parents will not allow me to watch these movies or shows. Until one day my twin sister and I were watching WWE (wrestling show), we were babysitting my little sister and we thought it would be funny to act out a scene. We chased my little sister into the hallway and jump on her thinking that we were just having fun. We heard a loud pop and then my little sister started yelling from the top of her lungs. Long story short we ended up breaking her right leg, I’ve never felt so horrible in my life because at the time it seem fun and careless. Ever since that incident we never watch wrestling again. I feel this accident changed the way of thinking, growing up I became more conservative. Don’t get me wrong I do get upset every now and then but I do try to control my anger. …show more content…
For one we can let a child know that they have done wrong by verbally talking to the child. Growing up my parents would use the “three strikes rule” they would first talk to me to let me know that I have done wrong; if that did not work they will move one to the second strike. Grounded or taking away my prize position would be my second strike, for example I loved to text and be on my phone, so my parents would take away my phone. Thirdly they will move on to the physical punishment, now this one hurt the most because not only did I get two chances or strikes I also got a spanking.     Simple physical punishments; such as pinching, flicking, and spanking, are carried out on us at a very young age, and all throughout life. Our parents are here to discipline us, to teach us the difference of right and wrong. When we first misbehave, our parents might tell us to “knock it off” or “stop” and they may raise their voice when asserting these commands. We sometimes stop when told to, but sometimes we ignore their commands and keep misbehaving repeatedly. This is where physical punishment comes into play. A form of physical punishment would and will be carried out on us. At first it may be a simple punishment, but gradually the punishments intensify. Once a punishment has been carried out, many of us become cloaked in fear of punishment and from this fear we learn not to do that mistake again.     If a child does something wrong, how do we as people correct it? In the United States, many families seem to think that spanking a child is the way to correct the misdemeanor that the child has committed. If a child bites another child, should the child get spanked? I believe that if a child does something that is known to be wrong, than the child should have some sort of punishment. If a parent does the spanking out of anger, instead of for the purpose of correcting, than I feel as if spanking should be allowed. I personally was spanked as a child, and I knew if I did something wrong I would get it from my mother. I eventually got to the point where when I talked back to my mother I knew I was getting my mouth smacked and feared talking back. These days kids say what they want to their parents and aren’t afraid of doing so. Respect has gone out of the window for most kids, and they don’t even care that they have disrespected their parent. An interview done a parent stated that they used the action of spanking their children and they believe that is taught them right from wrong.
