Every year a hand full of players get invited to a small town in Ohio called Canton. This small town is home to the National Football Hall of Fame This year Brett Favre was invited to be inducted to the hall of fame, along with a few other outstanding players. This year, the induction would take place on August 6th, 2016. The crowd was filled with fans of all players, but most of the crowd would be dressing green and gold for the Green Bay Packers for their beloved Brett. During his speech, Brett covered a wide range of topics, but the one he would talk about the most and would hit home the hardest would be the topic of never giving up and living with no regrets. He would deliver his points very well and would mess up barley if not at all through…
Coaching is “the process of equipping people with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities they need to develop and become more successful.” Mentoring is “a more personal relationship in which a more experience mentor acts as a guide and sponsor of a less experienced protégé. In my opinion Kurt Warner fulfills both those roles. We need only to look at his time in Arizona to see how he coached and mentored players of the Arizona Cardinals organization. First we have to look at the coaching aspect. When talking with Larry Fitzgerald he said “why I should be the best, I’m good enough”. It was then that Warner realized why he was there. He was going to help the Cardinals be more than good enough. He taught the team what it looked like in the meeting room, at practice, and how to act in order to be the best. He gave them the tools to succeed. In addition to that the documentary says he took Larry Fitzgerald “under his wing”! That phrase under his wing seems to me like a mentor taking on a person. Although Larry was already a pro bowl player he had much to learn. Warner elevated him to one of the best receivers in the NFL. You could see that it was more of a personal relationship as well. Larry has multiple stories of where he’s at his house either hanging out with Warner’s kids or eating dinner. At one point in the show there is even a picture of him with Warner’s son. I believe that his mentorship and coaching had a huge impact on the Cardinals. A team that had won one playoff game before his arrival now was a competitive member of the NFL and challenged for the championship each season he was starting there. Even after he retired the mentality continued with the likes of Fitzgerald and the Cardinals are still an extremely competitive organization in the…
In the chapter win forever, I found it refreshing with how he set up his program. He thought about every detail that goes in to making a team that can win year after year. His belief system and philosophy are what lead him to the Super Bowl title. It really made me think of my own philosophy and belief system. In all honesty it made me start writing down everything I want me team and athletes to be about. I also lie how he picked players and staff based around his philosophy. He put together a team of like minded people and that’s why it…
Although many arkansans have left their mark on the world, Paul “Bear” Bryant left this earth as the greatest college football coach to ever live. Vince McMahon, the owner of the WWFE and XFL showed very few level 5 leadership characteristics. He was very loud and attention-loving, always taking responsibility for the success of his company. He showed very little personal humility or professional will. When creating the XFL, McMahon followed the what first, then who mentality. He created rules, teams, and a general attitude of the league and broadcasts before having any players, coaches, owners, or announcers in place. McMahon believed he could create his own stars no matter who they were coming in. To be a success, you need the who first, then the what; a mentality McMahon was lacking.…

Vince Lombardi 's statement that "winning is the only thing that matters in sport", is one of the truths that are inherent in the world of sports. Athletes are willing to cheat to guarantee success, either through the use of performance-enhancing drugs, or through the act of injuring others. Lombardi 's statement not only applies to athletes, but it also applies to countries that athletes are representing. Events such as the Olympics and the World Cup of Hockey are a source of national pride and some countries are willing to try anything to bring a little prestige back, while other athletes, who are representing their country will resort to unethical tactics. Judges and officials are bribed in order to win events. Lombardi 's statement also affects coaches, owners, and managers. They too place winning as their number one concern. Fair play generally takes a back seat to the desire for winning that some will bend rules, while others will outright cheat. The corruptness of sports today has lead to many methods of unethical behaviour.…

The last and final trait that I think a good leader needs is being humble to himself and others. This means that you have to stay true to yourself and others, in the movie, Coach Boone's stayed humble to himself when problems arose against him. Also, in the movie when racism was everywhere after they went home Coach Boones didn’t care and still stayed humble. “Self-praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class, and be humble.” - John Madden. This basically means that you can’t succeed with self-praise and that you have to stay humble to yourself to really be a winner. Also, it wasn’t just Coach Boone's that was humble in Remember the Titans, it was also Julius and the other captain when the team was in trouble.…
This is a very well known quotation used by the debaters of sports. This was once said by Henry Russell Sanders, an American Football player and coach. However, this quote is often associated with Vince Lombardi, who actually intended to say: “Winning is not everything, but the will to win is everything”.…
