The film takes the form of a triptych, (a composition made up of three parts). These three stories represent the three general levels of life in Mexico City. The first story explores what amounts to working class life in Mexico City. It depicts a quality of life determined by and confined within the economic limitations that are a fact of that social sphere. The second story sets itself to convey an upper class life that amounts to little more than a veneer of wealth, while…

Tomas Scarseth is very popular on Gale’s search engine, and has written many essays about famous novels. Scarseth brings many points the table that I had not thought of while reading Of Mice and Men. The essay was created in 1998, so it’s a little older. All the information is there though, and brought up topics many other critics had…

No-one knows how many rodents there are. But a recent estimate put the number at 42% of mammalians are rodents. Between them they outnumber the amount of humans on the planet. That number of rats would eat about 210 tonnes of food every day and contaminate with feces, urine and hair very much more than that. Rat numbers may be increasing because of recent less severe winters, more of us providing food for wild birds, and inadvertently for rats, in our gardens and parks, fewer Local Authorities offering services of free rodent control, and the spread of rodenticide resistance.…

The first element is repetition when the rats, and the rope keep repeating actions. In the beginning he finds out later by looking at the room closely there are rats in the walls: “Here and there as he went round he saw some crack or hole blocked for a moment by the face of a rat with bright eyes glittering in the light” of his lamp. What impresses him most, however, is the “great alarm bell on the roof”(Stoker 1) Even the narrator says, “This evening the scampering of the rats began earlier; indeed it had been going on before his arrival, and only ceased whilst his presence by its freshness disturbed them…Tonight the rats disturbed him more”(Stoker 2).One specific rat with red eyes repeats disturbing the Malcomson, and goes up the rope. That evening, the rats’ commotion and noise is greater than it had been the other night. Just like the other night, the rats later become suddenly silent and the red enormous rat disturbs Malcomson by staring at him again, “with baleful eyes,” from the “old high-backed carved oak chair beside the…

This book is a diary written by a young girl named Caroline Cowles Richards. Carolina tells the reader about her life. How at a early age her and her sister Anna, lost their mother, were sent to their grandparents house in canandaigua, New York. They were brought up with simplicity, sweetness and Puritan traditions. The diary begins in 1852, and is continued until 1872. She recalls swift transitions throughout her life that the reader can recall events happening in a history book. The majority of the diary takes place well before the civil war begins, and it is fascinating to see what the daily life of a young girl was like. It begins when she's 10 years old, and ends when she turns 30. Much of the story revolves around her puritan grandparents and little sister who she lives with, and her school and church life. The descriptions of living through the four year war really opens your heart, and the people she meets throughout her life are often names you recognize from history books. Additionally, she is very opened minded, has many different attitudes, her diary was rare compared to letters or other diaries of this time period.…

This novel really stirred my emotions, especially in the beginning. For example, Candelario works at a restaurant owned by a man named Don Gustavo. Candelario is the salad maker and what taught, by Don Gustavo himself, how to make a perfect Caesar salad for his customers. The doctor and his wife came in and both ordered salads and Candelario made the salads exactly to Don’s instructions, but the customers were not pleased. Since they were not pleased Don fired Gustavo on the spot that night. This made me very angered with Don and people like Don. It sucks when you do something right but then someone is displeased so all of a sudden it was the wrong thing to do. In this situation, Don was definitely the bad man and people should…
