Video Games Are Good
Are Video Games of Any Good?

In this 21st generation, video games are one of the most entertaining and one of the most popular ways to enjoy time. Video games are electronic human interactive games, which can be played in different types of consoles in a variety of ways. Have you ever thought about video games being beneficial? Or not just something which helps pass time or something that is a bad addiction? Video games are so popular in today’s world that, the video game business earns billions of dollars on releasing a game or a type of console. In 2010 the play station brand hit 155 million units sales of their ever so famous console, “the play station 2,” which is also known as the “PS2.” Video games are not just an entertainment but, it has turned into something much bigger, it has turned into a business and also a living for some people. Many people state that video games are bad for us, like there is a topic posted in debate.org, where people who think video games are not of any good, and surprisingly to my benefits of my opinion 67% of the people who rated the discussion disliked it! Many people also have related violent behavior to violent games, like the tragic massacre that took place on the December 12th 2012, when 20 year old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children and 6 adult staffs, in Sandy Hook Elementary School. Many have said that, Violent video games was one of the main motivations for Adam’s violent act, A TV and a radio host, named Glen beck stated that the, “Sandy Hook Massacre,” was caused by video games. He also states that, “video games are a gateway drug for our kids and instead of a high, they get numbness, they get an indifferent heart and a mind that cannot tell the difference between fiction and reality.” I strongly disagree with his point; there was violence before video games. I believe the Sandy Hook murderer was a mentally ill and an unstable teenager. If video games was the case, there are a lot of children play

According to the article “Do Video Games Kill?” author, Karen Sternheimer, brings up an interesting and controversial subject about video games. “If we want to understand why young people, particularly middle class or other stable environments, become homicidal, we need to look beyond the games they play.” Sternheimer starts her article by giving an example of the video game “Doom” that became a target for critics. Shooting at the schools in Kentucky, Oregon, and Colorado were most probably caused by video games. The author sticks to this explanation because of many influential opinions from politicians, news, and different groups of people. Media is providing information to the public about shooters being the ones who are playing video games.…

Neither of these assumptions are anywhere close to correct. Many games can be great for creativity, such as Minecraft where the player can go from being stranded in a forest to king of the jungle. However, there are also many games that are extremely inappropriate for children like Grand Theft Auto in which the entire goal of the game is to rob banks, hussle drugs, and shoot cops. Just these two games set side by side show how different games can be from each other and thus, how each can have a different effect on children. This concept is understandably hard to grasp due to how far games have come in these few short years as well as the media’s rigorous efforts to vilanize gaming. For years now, the media has made an effort to connect violent crimes, primarily school shootings, to violent games. However many of these events have shown no link to the crimes, such as the Virginia Tech mass murderer who actually refrained from playing video games with his fellow classmates (Olson et al., 2009, p.…

Video games have always been a great landmark in the history of the human race and how great and advanced they’ve become since their creation. Video games also have their own timeline and certain points in time in which major controversy has arisen. Newscasters have made full reports on how video games are the major contributor to thoughts and actions of violence in the minds of all who have purchased them, either being adults and all the way down to children of all ages. Even though newscasters and reporters may be seen as respected and credible sources this topic has always pinned video games as the culprit but they were never the ones to blame.…

In my most recent essay I wrote of the violence attributed to video games in light of various shootings and other tragedies that occurred in the past year or so. In this essay I argued that despite their violent content, video games are not completely to blame for acts of violence committed by children. Throughout this essay I tried to convince the reader by, first, establishing my own credibility with video games, then sharing my own experiences with violent games, and providing both empirical data and valuable insight from trusted sources.…

In Linda Bernstein’s informative article “Gaming the Console” she presents both sides to the ongoing debate about the possible consequences associated with playing video games. Some experts have concluded that gaming leads to negative outcomes such as an increase in violent behavior, or a decrease in academic and social skills. On the other hand, there is a belief that some video games can have positive educational and physical benefits. Bernstein touches on all of these aspects of gaming and leaves the ultimate decision up to the reader to form his or her own opinion on the matter. Throughout the article, there are three images displayed that effectively support the text and help develop the arguments presented.…

I grew up in a household where video games were a privilege that I had to earn. When I had done all my homework and chores, I was allowed to play video games for an hour a day. As I grew older my parents thought I could make my own choices and did not limit the amount of time I spent playing video games. Many people today think that video games cause children to become couch potatoes, act dumb, and be rude. As a young child, my parents taught me that responsibilities come before the reward. That is why I have a different opinion of video games. I believe that video games can be beneficial to individuals; however, there are limitations. They help children deal with cancer, improve literacy skills, gain educational skills, and stay fit, but individuals should be cautious about the genre of the game and the amount of play time. When these precautions are taken, video games can be a helpful tool for many.…

In the essay, “Do Video Games Kill,” the author known as Karen Sternheimer discusses how news networks and politicians always point to video games as factors that influence the violent tendencies of people that commit murder or mass shootings. Sternheimer often states that news networks often say that video games teach kids “how to kill”. In 1993, a popular title to this day called Doom was released. It was a first person shooter that was very popular amongst teenagers and young adults. Not too long after the release of the game, three school shootings took place. “Press accounts emphasized that the shooters loved Doom, making it appear that the critics predictions about video games were coming true” (204).…

Many people also think that playing violent video games would make people become violent. According to a survey, a whopping 75% of polled parents think violent video games contribute to violence. I do not think that video games significantly increase violence in children enough to cause them to take another human’s life. I believe that these video games are purely for fun and kids can distinguish reality from fantasy. Even though studies show that children show aggressive behavior when they observe aggressive behavior I think that naming video games as the cause of mass shootings is unclear and very loose information. For the past 40 years, since the first video games were created, the gaming industry has developed games that would surpass other games before it. Since the late 1970’s, when the first two games of “Pac-man” and “Space Invaders” were created, video games have changed tremendously over time. The late 1970’s through the 1980’s video game makers used what was called an 8-bit graphic system, which limited many features they could put in video games .Violence was not realistic, blood was not red, and so violence in video games was not incorporated into the new games that appeared on the market. In the early 1990’s, video game makers began…

Video games. Probably one of the best things invented ( In my opinion). There a place you can go if you just need some peace or to play a match with your boys. Video games are really fun, but are they safe? Over 91 percent of kids the ages 2 – 17 in America are playing video games! Is that safe? It seems dangerous for pretty much all the kids in America are playing video games, and they also probably don't have a time limit. Now, I myself play video games as well, but I do have a time limit. I only get an hour a day and sometimes during a school break, I'll get unlimited time. Even though I really like having unlimited time I still think taking a break is good. So in this essay, I'll be explaining my own opinion on video games and whether they're good or bad.…

Stop the debate as to whether children who love playing video games should be encouraged to continue or should they be stopped. Several people think children need to play video games because they make them active, but still, numerous other people also believe video games are not good for children. Despite the fact that other people think video games are healthy for children, I strongly believe they are bad for them. There are several reasons why video games are harmful for children. According to Professor Laurie Wills, Video games can be considered as addictive drugs that do nothing but harm the user (Willis 25). This clearly implies that this context issues reasons to demonstrate that video games are bad for children.…
