Video Game and Games Addiction Effects
Video Games And Parents – Why So Much Hate?

In a recent survey that was conducted, it was discovered that what parents fear the most is not that their children will get addicted to drinking alcohol or watching pornographic videos.

Their greatest fear is that their children will get obsessed with playing video games.

You may be surprised at first, but when you think about it the results actually makes sense.

Just take a look at the gaming consoles available today. You have the PlayStation 3, the Xbox360, and the Nintendo Wii – and that doesn’t count all of the older generations of these three consoles.

Plus, there are also handheld gaming devices such as the PSP and the Nintendo DS. And don’t forget the PC which the use more for playing games – especially massively multiplayer role playing games (MMORPGs) – rather than doing their schoolwork.

The reason why the gaming industry just keeps on growing is because the support for these games is still at an all time high.

The industry continues to earn huge profits even during times of economic crisis. But that’s another story altogether.

The video game console industry is a very competitive segment. Entry into this market is still feasible. From a cultural standpoint, games have never been bigger. Nielsen found that half of all American households have a console, and the amount of time spent playing games has increased 7% since last year (due mostly to mobile and tablet games). But the current crop of consoles is aging rapidly: Xbox 360 is seven years old; Wii and PlayStation 3 are six. As a result, hardware sales are down 15% over the past year, and software isn't faring much better. Even factoring in projected Wii U sales, NPD analyst Anita Frazier expects…

The existence of video games came into being from the past 30 years. It has been a favorite source of entertainment for kids. When board games and cartoons were replaced by a more supreme sort, called video games none could imagine the impacts it would bring upon the children. Video games became more interesting to kids than any other things, is because one could interact with the objects moving in the screen or have a control over something. Unlike cartoons, board games and toys, video games provided the teens a command and control scenario where they actually were a part of the virtual world. The first types of video games didn’t have ‘ill-effects’ on kids because they were strictly fictious and offered commands to be carried out. The visuals weren’t that good and it didn’t shape many thoughts in the gamers’ head. Games like Pac-Man, Mario Bros, and Tetris were just a pastime at the arcade. As the gaming world gradually moved forward the initiation of ‘violence and aggression in teens’ took place. The first…

Droning away on the computer next to me, my friend is able to completely zone out his surroundings; with each click of the mouse, he is exclusively in the virtual world he creates. His constant need to disappear from society and to construct his own, compels me to question the reason of why he’s doing what exactly he is doing. I do not have an answer why he does what he does but at least he’s doing something that he can be good at. However the reasons could be from a feeling of detachment from society or running away from a deeper problem that is put deep inside oneself and not directly confronted. Gaming is not the problem. It is merely something that is used to console and comfort. The excessive use of it, however, is what can hold harmful effects to normal behavior and social attitudes. It could turn into developing real psychological problems like social awkwardness , depression, difficulty in a job enviroment and relationships, being disconnected from reality and in some cases can develop into antisocial disorders. (Meek 2) With the number of gamers and games increasing each year, (Sinclair) changes need to be done for our future generations to be more engaged and more responsive with society. Beginning with parenting in such way that sets a good example of what it means to be a responsible and productive citizen, such as active parenting and atively pursuing a better responive citizen.…
