Veterinarian Essay
A veterinarian provides preventative and diagnostic health services to animals. The animals can vary from small pets to zoo animals. A veterinarian works at an animal clinic but some are private vets who travel, government vets, zoos or aquariums, and can work on the boarder to check if imported animals are healthy. Vets administer medications, vaccinations, preform surgeries, and provide care for animals. Unlike doctor who provide health care for humans, a veterinarian must rely on the animal’s symptoms and reactions because animals can’t talk. Veterinarians are responsible for caring for the animal and after or during an illness or injury. They’re also responsible if something goes wrong during a surgery. Veterinarians work in animal clinics or animal hospitals. Some travels to farms, laboratories, and work for the government. It is very competitive to get accepted into a veterinary medicine school. In 2013 less than Half of the applicants that applied to a veterinary medicine school were accepted. In college you should have maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher and passed all the required classes for veterinary medicine school. When applying to a veterinary medicine school they will examine how you did in your last 3-4 semesters in college. Choose three individuals to provide a letter of recommendation for you. One is required to be from an academic adviser. One is required to be from a veterinarian and the last one an individual of your choice. It is also highly recommended to get involved in student clubs like a pre-vet club. Veterinary medicine school if four years long. After veterinary school to become a vet you need to take a state test to become a licensed vet. The test is about three hundred questions
