Vaccinating Children Pros And Cons Essay
Vaccinations have served as an essential component in our medical system for years. Why now are parents refusing to vaccinate their children in the mindset that this decision is actually protecting their child? Based on Susan Ellenberg and Robert T Chen’s article, “The Complicated Task of Monitoring Vaccine Safety,” published by Public Health Reports in 1997 this refusal is due to the scientific evidence that links harmful and life threatening side effects with vaccines. Although, controversially in Barbara Fisher and and Steven Shelov article, “Should Parents Be Allowed To Opt Out Of Vaccinating Their Kids,” published by Insight On The News in 2000 illustrate that a multitude of people, doctors, and government officials believe vaccinations

The authors of these articles failed to include statistics and data representing specific cases of children having mild to severe vaccine side effects. With this knowledge it would illustrate a more data based perspective on this controversy, further backing up its claims. Furthermore it would be useful if these side effects were mentioned by doctors specifically stating the chances of developing such adverse reactions. I feel overall these articles built a foundation for their sides, but lacked statistics and data to illustrate their main points. I personally feel both sides have significant research and reasoning, but vaccine causing harm to children lacks the statistics to back it up. Furthermore, the research for vaccines protecting the community and overall well being of children displays a more reliable platform to side with.
The vaccine controversy is continuing to rise in attention.Ultimately, with more research being conducted there would be a more definite answer as to whether it is safe to vaccinate children. Furthermore, with this knowledge and further conclusion parents would not have to live in fear over choosing whether or not to vaccinate. Above all, with more definite facts to this controversial issue, society can be better protected and give the utmost effort to ensure everyone's well-being
