Use of Social Media
Today many people are affected immensely by the use of social media. Some people are lead to believe that the use of social media is a good thing as well as a bad thing. For some, it has even changed their lives completely. As for others, it has not had an effect. In today’s society people heavily rely on technology to either speak to someone or use online resources, which in in return, can have both a positive as well as negative effects on modern society. Many people believe that social media, as well as technology itself, has had many negative effects on society. For example, when someone needs to turn in a paper within in a week they sit down for 3 hours while only one of those hours were actually writing the essay. This happens on a daily basis, because in today’s society we rely on the technology we have that it is practically attached to us. We all know that dreaded feeling of having to do our homework, so we put it off as late as we can and then eventually get to it an hour before it is due. But while we put it off, we were sitting texting, tweeting, facebooking, on instagram, on youtube, watching the VMAs, or even reading the tabloids about which boy from One Direction is dating which celebrity. We have become so wrapped up with this technology that we forget about all the important things in life like doing our homework, talking to an actual person, or maybe even picking someone up from the airport, that we soon forget about the important things in life. In fact most of us have done almost all of these things at one point or another. Doing all of these things can only break us, not help us. By just texting someone instead of calling or speaking to them face to face we are losing that sense of connection to the outside world. We begin to lack in our communication skills that were drilled into us when we were children, and that is why today’s generation of kids are lacking them.
