The major functions of the urianry system are produces urine, stores urine,and elimintes urine.
The organs of the urinary system work to help the body get rid of wastes and excess water in the form of urine. Other urinary system organs help transport urine or store urine and release it when it is time. The organs of the urinary system include the two kidneys, two ureters, a urinary, bladder, sphincter, and the urethra.
The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs, each about the size of a fist. They are located just below the rib cage, one on each side of the spine. Every day, the two kidneys filter about 120 to 150 quarts of blood to produce about 1 to 2 quarts of urine, composed of wastes and extra fluid.

In males, the urethra also functions as a urinary canal and as a passageway for cells and secretions from various reproductive organs.
The urethral sphincter is one of two muscles used to control the exit of urine in theurinary bladder through the urethra. The two muscles are the male or female external urethral sphincter and the internal urethral sphincter.
The urinary system works with the lungs, skin and intestines to maintain the balance of chemicals and water in the body. Adults eliminate about 27 to 68 fluid ounces (800 to 2,000 milliliters) per day based on typical daily fluid intake of 68 ounces (2 liters), National Institutes of Health (NIH). Other factors in urinary system function include fluid lost through perspiring and breathing. A bladder of an adult can hold about 2 cups of urine at a time according to our urinary system facts. Once the bladder is full, we feel a strong urge to pee. You should empty your bladder regularly, about every 2-3 hours to avoid bladder infection. Once the urine gets too concentrated, your chances of developing bladder or urinary tract infections doubles. People with bladder infections cannot hold urine for a long time because the lining of the bladder is inflamed and it sends continuous messages to empty the bladder, though there might not be much urine at all. Urinary tract infections should not be taken lightly because the infection can spread to nearby organs, kidneys causing dangerous health
