PHILIPPINE STANDARDS FOR DRINKING WATER 1993 UNDER THE PROVISION OF CHAPTER II, SECTION 9 OF PD 856, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE CODE ON SANITATION OF THE PHILIPPINES.

To implement the provisions of section 9, otherwise known as the Prescribed Standards and Procedures of Chapter ll of the Code on Sanitation of the Philippines, PD 856, this Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water 1993 hereby revises and updates the 1978 National Standards for Drinking Water. The Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water 1993 (PNSDW 1993) is designed to guide the Waterworks Officials, Developers and Operators of Water Supply Systems both Government and Private entities, health and sanitation authorities and the general public and all other concerned. The new standards cover requirements for the acceptable values of the determined parameters in measuring water quality. These parameters include microbiological, physical, chemical and radiological compositions of the water. The standard also delineates values established in conforming with the medical and health implication of the parameters as opposed to values established purely to satisfy aesthetic requirements. Section 1. DEFINITION OF TERMS 1. Aesthetic - aspects of drinking water quality perceived by senses, including odor, taste, color and clarity. Aerobe An organism capable of growing in the presence of oxygen.

2. 3.

Anaerobic - Life processes or chemical reactions that occur in the absence of oxygen or a condition in which Dissolved Oxygen (DO), is not detectable in the aquatic environment. For my time spent doing community service, I chose the Urban Ecology Center. I was mainly interested in the field research opportunities as they pertained to my education in Natural Science as well as my own personal passions and interest. The Urban Ecology Center is a community built organization, which gives back to the environment, educates children on being conscious of the environment as well as provides a public space for any one to come and be a part of the goings on or just hang out and use the facilities. The Urban Ecology Center at Riverside Park is where I spent most of my volunteer hours, the building is more adequate for school groups and…

Thus to distinguish between water quality criteria pollutants and maximum contaminant levels you need to look at the primary and secondary water standards. Primary water standards regulate organic and inorganic chemicals, microbial pathogens, and radioactive elements that may affect the safety of drinking water. These standards set a limit--the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL)--on the highest concentrations of certain chemicals allowed in the drinking water supplied by a public water system. Secondary water standards regulate chloride, color, copper, foaming agents, iron, manganese, odor, pH, sulfates, and total dissolved solids, all of which may affect qualities of drinking water like taste, odor, color, and appearance. The concentration of these contaminants is referred to as…

On 03/19/2017 deputies were called to the area of 1200 S. Sumner Rd (Corbin low water bridge), for the report of possible human remains. A short time later Deputy Corley contacted me over the radio and asked if I could come to his location to examine the findings. When I arrived I was met by Corley and the RP, Corley walked me to the area where the bones were located. It was about 50 yards to the east of the bridge on the north side of the banks. I did appear to be a partial human skull, and 3 other vertebrae bones.…

    Urban Sustainability

The program that I chose to implement into my hometown is “How to Build a Cooler City.” “From 1878 to 2005, Los Angeles temperatures rose 4 degrees on average, climbing from around 62 degrees to 66 degrees.” Urban areas such as Downtown Los Angeles are likely to rise 4 to 4.5 degrees within the next 10 years. My goal is to cut the cost of electric energy and make the city of Los Angeles a much cooler place. The first challenge I will have is to go to city council and try to get them to back up my project and me. The next step would be to get a budget from the city and start working. I can lower the temperature of Los Angeles by implementing green roofs across the city and in particular downtown Los Angeles. The other is to lay down permeable material throughout alleyways and select streets. Both of these solutions have been used in Chicago to help lower the physical temperature of the city. For example the City Hall building in Chicago is half a regular black top roof and the other half a green roof. When measuring the temperature the black topside of the roof was about 160 degrees Fahrenheit, when on the other side of the same building, the green roof side, and the temperature dropped to about 80 degrees Fahrenheit. That is an 80-degree difference. The reason the roofing is such an issue is because all that heat is trapped on top of the building and then moves into the building which makes the it much hotter inside which creates more use of air conditioning, energy, and electricity. The next goal would be to have a “save our city” fundraiser where we can raise money for the project. I truly believe that people will want to contribute and participate given that this will eventually save them money through the cost of electricity as well as the comfort of living will be more enjoyable when inside their homes and offices. To me the implementation of…

This chapter raises important issues about the efficiency of traditional ethnographic fieldwork techniques in transnational corporate settings. William Leggette conducted his fieldwork in Jakarta, Indonesia. He depicts this culture as a “multi-ethnic, multi-cultural landscape [that] promotes a constant sense of dislocation-for both resident and visitor alike”(75). There are noticeable contrasts between the class systems in this city, as skyscrapers overshadow the decrepit and numerous tin-roof shanties. Leggette started his ethnography when he got hired as a “consultant” for a transnational corporate office. According to him, “The ethics of ethnography are deeply enmeshed in an ideology of providing a voice for the world’s most marginal populations”(78) Leggette’s ethnography became compromised the second he was hired by this corporation. The corporate setting conflicted with the anthropological ethics defined above. As he became an instrument for corporate profit, he noticed the dog-eat-dog corporate culture. Particularly, when he realized that the corporation never intended to uphold a national law that consisted of training local employees for a potential future as executives. Instead, these local employees were kept at mid-level management and never anything above that. He admits that employees that were lower in hierarchy were “ethnographic failures”. Upon his termination (and many other employees due to the economic crisis) lead to insightful relationships with those who were once considered “ethnographic failures”. Moreover, he argues that although his ethnography was one-sided while he worked in the corporation, if it weren’t for his employment there he would not have had these relationships. His research argued the traditional ethnographic notion of a long-term engagement in a particular place. Furthermore, the ‘place’ of urban research shifts as people shift. He also notes that his position…
