Unrealism In Life Of Pi
I completely disagree with everything that the book Life of Pi states because its assertions are too unrealistic. One of the main points that the Life of Pi states that there is such thing as a God is because he is there to comfort us. While I completely agree that many people do feel really safe if they believe in God, I can not believe that Pi would feel as safe as he did just because of an intangible object like God. When Pi decided to change religions, he sighted the Hindu God as someone that not only comforted him through this difficult decision, but also helped him make it. Being trapped in the middle of the ocean with limited resources, he needed someone to help push through the pain. According to the book, this person was God. However, I do not believe that was the reason that Pi survived. Pi survived not because of God, but because of his mental capability. When he was put in a need for survival situation, he had to change how he viewed his circumstance. Instead of feeling down and depressed, he focused every single day to keep himself alive. This was not because God told him to do that, but because he changed his mentality on the situation. Life of Pi is a book about an improbable survival that wants you to believe it was God who helped Pi survive. It even says in the author’s note, “I have a story to make you believe in God” (X). However, I knew that this would be a book that I had a hard time believing before we started it. Even though the book wants you to believe in God and the survival story, I was not able to believe anything in this book because it is a fiction book. This story did not really happen, which means the improbable survival did not happen, which means God did not have any effect in this story.
