Unit Ten Writing Assignment Everyone pursuing post-secondary education will one day reach that milestone of obtaining a degree in a field of their choice and looking for an outstanding career to use that knowledge they now possess. Landing a career is not always an easy thing and for some a career mentor is important in getting to that landmark. It is beneficial to have a close relationship with a superior within the industry of interest (Tishgart, 2013). Upon obtaining that degree and being qualified for that dream career, many candidates lack one major factor, experience. In having a career mentor they are able to gain physical experience, unbiased advice and an expertise in the skills necessary to get to the level one is trying to achieve (Henry, 2013). There are many ways one can find the perfect mentor to guide them to future success. First step in finding a mentor is to let family and friends know about it and see if they know anybody who would be of value to you. Also networking and connecting with groups within the career direction is important such as attending a health conference if interested in a Health or Nursing career (Tishgart, 2013). Many students build a close bond with an instructor or University employee that they have turned to in the past and can upon graduation can always turn to them to be a mentor. Many times a mentor can be found within the organization one is working or in an organization one is interested in working at, and it is a possibility to obtain an internship working alongside ones mentor to gain the experience and knowledge they can then take with them wherever they may land. Once an individual finds someone who could be their potential mentor it is essential to sit down and interview them like an applicant to see if their direction and the career pursuing individual match
