1.1 Explain why effective communication is important in developing positive relationship with children, young people and adults.
Forming and maintaining positive relationships within a school setting is of great importance. To have good relationships with pupils, staff and parents is not only beneficial to the school but also to pupil’s achievement.
Communication is vital in the building of positive relationships. Both verbal and none verbal communication skills are needed when forming relationships so that people feel comfortable and at ease in your presence.
In my setting I work closely mainly with the Teacher and Teaching assistant. It is important to have a good relationship with them. To be able to work with the teacher improves the standard of teaching and learning within their classroom.
Forming positive relationships with the pupils is fundamental. I often remind the pupils of what is expected of them in terms of behaviour. In most cases this is achievable with just a glance in their direction or asking them to make the right choice. Having such good relationships with them makes this possible.
1.2 Explain the principles of relationship building with children, young people and adults.
The principles of relationship building with children, young people and adults in any situation are that others should feel secure and safe in our company. This can be achieved by making sure you take time to listen, respond appropriately, remember issues that are close to them, be respectful, polite, be considerate of others positions they might be in and most importantly communicate effectively by being clear on key points.
One of the pupils in my setting was playing the Xylophone. She wanted to play a tune but couldn’t, so I asked if she would like to learn to play one. The pupil was really happy for me to help and together we figured out which notes to play. We

    Secondly showing respect to a child and listening to their point of view will in turn earn respect and you should always take time to remember their names. Another principle is being considerate and taking into consideration that a child maybe under stress which may have affected their behaviour in the short term. Maintaining a sense of humour is another key principle as laughter is a great way to relax and relieve stress.     To developing positive relationships with the children is the main key to a happy and calm environment. Without a positive and supportive attitude there will be no trust and honesty between ourself and the children.
