Unit 3 Research Assignment 1
I found that the Coldbox naming scheme was one I understood really well because even though it had a lot of different restrictions on how to name objects in your database, it did that so it would be easy to locate thing in your database. One of the rules is don’t use numbers or (.) use camel spacing that way your database you design does not have one key used over and over with different number, like mail file 1, mail file 2, mail file 3. This way your database is clean and well organized but also easy to understand, so that if you design it then leave do to some reason the person that comes after you doesn’t have to worry about figuring everything you did out. The Conceptual data model is the highest level ER model in that it contains the least granular detail but establishes the overall scope of what is to be included within the model set. The conceptual ER model normally defines master reference data entities that are commonly used by the organization. Developing an enterprise-wide conceptual ER model is useful to support documenting the data architecture for an organization.
Then there is the logical ER model which does not require a conceptual ER model, especially if the scope of the logical ER model includes only the development of a distinct information system. The logical ER model contains more detail than the conceptual ER model. In addition to master data entities, operational and transactional data entities are now defined. The details of each data entity are developed and the entity relationships between these data entities are established. The logical ER model is however developed independent of technology into which it is implemented.
